You're completely right. It's just that iTunes has a very, VERY tight grip on the industry for the most part. When people (mainstream, people unlike you and me) have their iPod and are FORCED to download iTunes to make it work, it becomes pretty obvious that they are far more likely to purchase from the iTunes store. It's a brilliant marketing strategy.
