Tons of guys listen to Katy. Her boobs do help thought. From my experience being in college, surrounded by douchy guys and the like. E.T. and The One That Got Away seems to be popular with guys.
Every guy I know played all her singles (minus TD) but going to parties I would always hear LFN. People on ATRL don't like the fact that she's a POP star, simple as that. They want her to be something she's not, then mock her when she flops.
Fun, accessible music and a relatively wholesome image. People often refer to her as a ***-guzzling **** on this site but very few people outside of ATRL see her this way.
She is very likable. She keeps her statements and videos neutral. She is really hot. She catter to on type of person. Her music is very catchy. Her team and her chose her sigles very wisely. It really isn't "effortless" because she knows the market and how to use it. And I for that because if it was "that easy" many of these girls wouldn't flop.
I don't think so, just because people were saying Firework was over-worked like Dressin Up is, and yet Firework is her signature hit song. But I get what you mean, and there's no denying that it was still a shock though. A mid-tempo ballad over an upbeat dance song.

If any guy "likes" her, then it is because of her conventional looks. I have yet to hear of a straight guy listen to her songs. Like I said, Katy mainly caters to a young female demographic.
when i kissed a girl came out teen straight boys went crazy over that ****! i think straight guys dont express their love for katy, guilty pleasure duh!

You all will do anything to degrade major success.
No, Katy isn't this successful because she follows a "generic formula." If that were the case, many artist would be as successful as she is right now. Many artist release a lot of generic music but don't get her type of success, so that one can be tossed off.
Another is promotion. Sure, Katy has done a lot of promotion, but we have to remember that half this era's singles got little promotion. Last Friday Night, E.T., The One That Got Away, and Wide Awake have all seen small promotion in comparison to the other four TD singles. 80% of her promotion this era came from the other four singles.
The success doesn't come from releasing mostly generic music or heavy promotion, she's proven those theories wrong. The reason she has her success because she is highly likable, and isn't offensive in any way with her actions or her music. Even people that don't like her music very rarely have anything against her as a person.

She makes good music and writes good songs with actual meaning, therefore; immediate connection with the public. Just because she's not marrying the night doesn't mean she's vanilla or generic.
