Azealia never changed genres though, she has ALWAYS been rapping over house music beats

Thus meaning, she's turning her back on the hip-hop crowd that most definitely got her name out there. Is this so hard to understand or?

Ah, now we see the misunderstanding:
The hip-hop crowd is NOT what got her famous. People called her hip-hop yes, because she primarily RAPPED. But the crowd that got her a fanbase and a following was the dance-pop, indie, and alternative crowds. Her whole point, and my whole point is this debate, is even though people tried to call her hip-hop, that was NEVER the music she was making. She's been making music with unusual beat choices, and dance beats from the get-go. She's not CHANGING anything like you seem to think she is. She's just clarifying the kind of music she wants to continue to make, and acknowledging that she can find an audience for it in places outside of the hip-hop community who have NOT been supporting her.

And no, the term sell out doesn't apply to this situation seeing how her sound has been consistent amongst ALL of her songs
She doesn't want to be associated with the hip-hop scene, but she will continue to rap
|
I'm done. I've said the same thing over and over again. She will be seen as a sellout to them and the fickle general public. I'm not speaking for everyone, I'm speaking off of how Nicki was seen as a sellout to make euro dance music, how Katy was seen as a sellout for a little bit when she left Christian music for the pop hits. We can debate all we want, but the GP isn't sitting cooped up on their computers arguing what is a sellout and what is not. At the end of the day, they will term Azealia as that and that's all I'm trying to get across.

In all honestly this will keep Azealia as an underground act. She makes good music so I have NO problem with this, but she won't be successful.

Yes it does mean she's not a hip hop artist.
I'm talking about the general public. She's a pop artist to them, because all they know from her is Starships, Super Bass and Turn Me On.
People aren't meant to guess she does hip hop music. Nobody knows. All they've ever heard from her is dance songs, no different to what Ke$ha and Lady Gaga do.
Maybe Ke$ha has some hidden hip hop tracks that nobody knows about. So shall we call her a hip hop artist too?

But Azealia isn't changing the sound of her music. Your point doesn't make sense.
Seriously, accept that in this one case you don't actually know what you're talking about. You're obviously confused and think Azealia had this big support on urban radio/in hip-hop, but that's never been the case. She's had success in hip-hop that's blended over with pop (again, West and M.I.A., etc), but she has NEVER been a factor on urban radio because of the dance beats. She's not changing her sound or style at all, she's basically just confirming what people who followed her influences/style already knew. I don't know why this is so hard for you to comprehend. Have you actually listened to her material?

Katy went from doing Christian music to pop music
Nicki went from making Hip-Hop music to pop music
Azealia went from rapping over house beats to rapping over house beats
You keep saying that the general public will view her as a sell out, yet you haven't giving any concrete facts as to why

Please, by all means, if you have some evidence that the hip-hop community is what really got her name out there, show it to me. But 212 got big on Pitchfork, not TGJ.

Exactly, urban radio doesn't even play her music (you may hear 212 on the radio once a week, but that's it)

And Jameson's right. The Urban community NEVER had nothing to do with her. Urban radio never used her either.
It was always the underground scene that did.

And can people stop trying to speak for the "hip hop crowd". I'm a hip hop fan, and I don't see Azealia as a sell out. And most other hip hop fans don't either. If you go on a hip hop forum, and talk about Azealia, most people will be like "Who?".
I have a lot more respect for her after this, if anything, and it's helped out her career imo.

She got booed at Summer Jam for being too dance.
Her original label 2-3 years ago was XL Recordings, which houses artists like M.I.A., The xx, Jai Paul, etc. Artists who blend electronic music and other genres.
Looks like she's stayed about the same to me. I agree that she might not gain pop relevance on this track, but I'd rather that and she make good music like M.I.A. Maybe she'll even have a Paper Planes someday.

On what track? If she's still planning on making the same type of music, what's to stop her from breaking out? I think the music she's making right now has great potential to smash. She just needs a debut.

The public loves to not like what I like though.
