As i've not seen Mulholland Drive, though I should, I can't really give the response your post deserves!

I think another influence is The Stepford Wives, especially with the Su-Barbie-A archetype. I don't know if she's mentioned it in an interview but it's obviously there especially since she sampled bits of it for the Su-Barbie-A video.

You should definitely watch it. Su-Barbie-A is totally The Stepford Housewives, its one of my favourite archytypes because its full of contrasts and duality.

Among fans there is actually a very clear and concise explanation for the entire plot, though some things are definitely open to interpretation (which I won't mention here for spoiler reasons .) I didn't know she said Electra Heart was influenced by David Lynch, even though I've always gotten the David Lynch vibe from it (not sonically, but in theme - Lana Del Rey carries a more Lynchian vibe for me, but in a different way.)

I'd suggest watching it several times in the same week if you have the time, it'll make a lot more sense after a view consecutive viewings. Once you "get" the timeline of the movie, it actually makes perfect sense, it's much much less confusing than Lost Highway or Inland Empire. It's easily his best movie though. And his scariest! I think you know what scene I mean when I say that .

(EDIT: Btw, Marina totally looks/acts like a combination of Betty and Rita when she's doing the Electra Heart stuff! Trippy!)

I thought Rita was very Marina esque, especially when she wears the blonde wig. I will give the film another go though, because I still have so many questions that need answering. I love the aesthetic of the movie too, I think Marina's managed to capture it with her artwork, especially the self-shot pictures.

But there were girls in the audience with hearts on their faces. They, at least, should have gotten some screaming in!

I did find it strange that the audience was so sedate. When I saw Marina in Boston, the audience was completely rabid, unlike anything I've seen before, and Marina definitely fed off of it.

For this concert, the audience seemed way too sedate, and Marina seemed a bit bummed by the comatose non-reaction. Or maybe she's just tired. I can imagine that she must be!

It kind of depends on the audience you're performing for, imho. I don't know much about culture, but perhaps they're just not that rabid/they don't get particularly excited when attending concerts...

Someone replied in the comments of the YouTube video that they were at the concert and the audience was quite enthusiastic, but that somehow the camera didn't catch that. I guess we'll have to take their word for it!

I go to school in Boston and I know someone who goes to my school that lives in Boston and saw her last year. I'm home for the summer though, so I'm seeing her in Chicago this summer. I really wish I got to see her in Boston however, and I REALLY hope she adds a Boston date to the LHC tour (I noticed there isn't one) sometime after August so I can see her twice
