She had nothing to do with repealing DADT And she wore a costume for it, she treats it like a photo shoot. She is not the messiah of the gay, she does not represent me as a human being, I am not "born this way" like she sings. She is incredibly ignorant about the world...."Born This Way" is a dreadful thing, if you truly want to make a difference and make gay people accepted with a song, that drag queen of a song is not the way to go.
She received a letter from the White House thanking her for her help in repealing DADT.
Hm, should I believe "GreasyBruce" on ATRL.com, or Barack Obama?
If she doesn't represent you, don't listen to her or pay attention to her. From this thread you can see that she represents/helps some of us. End-of. No need to be upset about it.
Okay. I understand what you mean now. The way it was formed prior made it seem like you were ignoring the true question, but I get what you mean.
I still appreciate her geniune effort to support gay people. I love "Born This Way" as an amazing bop with 80s throwback sound, not as an inspiring anthem about how beautiful I am in my own way.
It all has to do with the interpretation of the lyrics. Some people listen to the words and take it literally and thats that. Others look deep into the song and understand the metaphors and messages she is trying to get across.
Although, Gaga explained many times that the song is about her saying goodbye to all of her past boyfriends and lovers BUT i think you're spot on with the underlying meaning. That explains the music video and live performances.
I don't remember ever reading that. I could be wrong, but I've never heard that before.
If you read the lyrics as a woman telling a gay man that she can't love them back the way they need, it all makes a ton of sense. You people who want her to have every video be a literal interpretation of the lyrics really don't understand her aesthetic. (A man with a nametag that says Alejandro constantly yelling out "Gaga!" and her turning away? Must she stand there with both hands in her pockets?)
Did you watch all of the Born This Way video? A race within the race of humanity that bears no prejudice, makes a ton of sense with the song. Just because she isn't literally sitting at the boudoir with her mother, doesn't mean the video has nothing to do with the song.
My bad dear but I listen the music and enjoy the videos, not over-analyze them or anything, if you ask anybody they will say the video is bad and have nothing to do the song, because ppl won't pay too much attention to the "secret meaning" it has.
She has done a lot more harm than good. It was not her intention, but that is what I have seen and what I believe. She has never in her work presented an image of gay people that does not conform to harmful stereotypes, to me it seems like she thinks the whole world is the art scene of Manhattan.
I don't think you understand what this whole stereotype business is about. First, you need to understand what she's promoting. She's not just a gay rights activist, but a pillar of hope for everybody. Many of her fans are flamboyant, and unfortunately, those are the ones who get persecuted the most.
Gaga really is just your typical faghag, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. She just has a lot in common with flamboyant gay men, and she sees how much they've been hurt. If you really do want to act that way, if you really do want to express yourself more effeminately, then go for it. That's all she's saying. Don't let other peoples opinions put you down and change the way you act. Do what makes you comfortable.
Stereotypes do exist, and I think there isn't enough attention on educating people about these stereotypes. Yes, we should promote awareness-- not all gay people are feminine. But we also need to promote acceptance, and that there is nothing wrong with feminine gay people.
Additionally, she has recognized not all gay people want to be associated with Gaga.
You can also not say the mainstream attention she's gotten as a gay rights activist hasn't changed anything. I don't think people understand how change works. It's like they expect one day for everything to just miraculously be different, with no progression required. The gay movement has been a gradual build-up, led by daring celebrities who want to speak out against discrimination. Society changes when they see these popular personalities taking a stand against injustice, it gives people someone to look up to. And don't give me that "she's just one person ********" because every person counts, and trust me, people get rallied the **** up when somebody like Gaga speaks about these issues.

See, this is an actual answer. Of course it's not going to change everyone's life, because music effects everyone differently. That's the beauty of music.
No. But then again, it wasn't really aimed at me. I feel like it did make a change in the way a lot off people view themselves, which I appreciate.
This. I never had a problem with the theme, it's the execution that I didn't like. Though if it helped people come to term with their insecurities, more power to her then.

Did you not read what i wrote?
The song is not just about gay people though. The song mentions ALL walks of life. She explains it here"

Exactly, I can't say that it really "helped" me, but I guess in a sense I was able to come out to my parents and by them listening to Gaga's music aswell they were much easier than I thought they would be. But i'm sure I could have done it on my own.
But the way she paired the song and video, gives the song a new meaning, just like it did for Telephone. Seriously, read the lyrics and think of Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto as gay men who want her to be one of them, and remember the scenes in the video with her as an androgynous person in traditionally male sex positions.
I'm sorry but, I love Alejandro and I'm all for deep meanings, but I do NOT get that vibe from the song

Okay but... if I'm telling you how the video and song relate... and I have an answer that's supported by her statements and what's in the video... you're really just gonna brush it off with "most people don't realize that?" Does that mean it's not true? Does that mean it wasn't the intention? Does that mean I'm seeing something that isn't there, just because most people don't notice it?...
LMAO NO ONE is saying Gaga represents you or the gays. Gaga has said that before in her backstage MMVA interview. Being a supporter and activist is great, since when was it bad? Stop being so unnecessarily bitter.

The song didn't help me whatsoever. However, what did help me sometimes was the preaches she done during her tours, those are what get me, tbh.
I have the utmost respect for what she tries to convey in her music though.

Umm... she gave multiple speeches about DADT. She dragged gay military officers to the VMAs and created a media storm about it.
Gaga has incited passion in the hearts of youth. She has made people care, and she has made people rally for change. People don't suddenly wake up and decide to vote for gay marriage.
