Janet has influenced waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more people, musically, lyrically, visually, fashion wise. In every way tbh. She was a force in the industry and people will continue to be inspired by her because she did it before any of the other girls and she did it best.

It's ridiculous that they felt the need to blacklist her, but it's had such an impact on how people view her legacy. Gross.

During her prime she was outshined internationally by acts like Diana, Barbra, Donna, Dionne and many others.

I am in my late 30's, love music and i only discovered her in that VH1 special. Not many people here in the UK know more than 2 songs of hers, actually now i can only remember Respect and that Dionne Warwick cover.

But R&B/Soul was never very strong outside U.S, this is a very strong kind of music there, but not here. During Aretha's prime, Europe was discovering punk/rock and of course, disco.

Um....it's VERY true. She had a lot of worldwide success. You clearly don't know much about her career.

The songs you can remember do not represent her success.

Celines voice is iconic, but she was not influencial as a pop star nor vocalist - meaning her vocal style and technique isnt innovative and she hasnt introduced a certain new technique or style of singing, unlike many blues, jazz, pop or soul singers. In other words, if Celine hasnt happened, nothing would have changed in the way how people sing or present themselves. She doesnt make any difference. Thats the harsh truth. She is popular, successful and a talented vocalist, but thats really it.
