I doubt they''d discount on iTunes, tbh.
But as you're saying, it needs to be at least within the top 20 for the discount to have an affect

Everyone overlooked it, but TOTGA/WFL etc. are all 49 cents as well.
Looks like MTN was just part of a campaign, not like they're going out of their way to reduce its price.

What's the point of Gaga discounting? Forcing a song onto the public that they clearly don't care for? Even if it climbs on BB, so what? Having a "plan" for MTN is pointless. What they need is plan for her whole career.

I think it's just the last chance to get some more sales from it before it dies and starts decreasing. It's clear that it won't got Top 10. The discount is pretty irrelevant but I don't see the problem with it

A pop star is nothing without successful singles. I'm sure they still care.
Especially since she's only been around for 3/4 years, she's not established enough to begin churning out a bunch of flop singles and maintain an interested fan base.
She's far from the ranks of a band like U2.

I think she just needs a way to jump off of the sinking boat that is MTN. She can throw every tactic she wants out there, but it's not resonating with listeners.

I really do. I mean, Adele wasn't in the limelight until she had a bunch of huge singles. Now every music-based article mentions her commercial success.
Gaga's antics will become irrelevant if her singles are peaking outside of the Top 40 consistently.
I was hopeful for the song she's "leaking" on Christmas, but from the looks of it, it might be some slow/boring ballad so who knows what she has planned.

Do you think it's over? Do you think it has any solution? Speaking of MTN, of course. I really want to know, out of the 5 singles until now this has to be the one accompanied with the most frustrating era.

I don't see how anyone can think MTN isn't over. It's being mauled by radio and lacks any digital power.

A hit single is the most important thing for a popstar. Everything else builds on that - album sales, tours, awards. Even the most basic popstars are able to have solid album sales, tour numbers and awards thanks to endless huge hit singles. No one is going to go to a pop concert to sing along to songs they've never heard of. Millions went to the Monster Ball to watch Gaga perform her hot smash hits JD, PF, Paparazzi, BR and sing along at the top of their lungs.
Even touring beasts U2 have the most amazing catalogue of smash hit singles that you still hear everyday on AC and HAC.

And if on Christmas day she unveils a RedOne club banger, MTN's grave will be cemented.

Successful singles are obviously important for a popstar's carreer. But a 5th single flopping isn't really a big deal.
If she and her label keep on focusing more on album sales, I think this may be the right decision; I don't want her to be only an hit-maker who has to release generic **** after generic **** to get people buy her album massively. The Born This Way era has, at least, proved she can get a Multi-Platinum status even with her biggest hit not being one of the most played songs of the year and not hitting 4M in sales. This was HER era, once she finds, in time, the right balance I think no one will stop her. She doesn't want to fade, she worked so hard for it.

Her multi-platinum status this era is based off of the foundation she built during TFM/TF.
Music like this would've never survived as her debut or something. So much of it was driven by hype.
In addition to that, the promotional efforts have been nonstop the entire year. TFM was able to sell rather decently without such force feeding to the public.
Do I want a flip back to Just Dance? No. But she still needs successful singles.
