I don't think generic equals boring, since lots of those generic party songs people are eating up right now are fun; and that's the main reason they're smashing. It's iTunes/pop radio candy. You know damn well CG is not unique It's a cute pop song and all but there's nothing that separates it from the other bubblegum Dr. Luke productions. See Rigalo's definition of generic.
That depends of the selling power of each artist you know. Not every artist can snatch a 5x platinum certification that easy like Katy does.

Yes, because Katy had so much momentum coming from that 13 month break from her previous album. How is CG not unique? 'Cause it's catchy?

'Cause Firework and ET are catchy too.

How many songs are anthems to a state? Empire State Of Mind (which CG was an answer song to

) and this... can't think of any others. I guess sorta You and I if you count that Nebraska tid bit.
Serisously though. There are more songs (plenty more) about expressing yourself, and being okay without yourself than there are about promoting a state.
So you're using this definition...

Generic is like stale, overused, sounds like everything "in" right now, etc. Good Feeling, while a good song, comes to mind.

What are you poking fun at the similarities between CG and Tik Tok? So if a song has a similar beat than another hit song, it's generic? Does that mean BTW was generic because it was similar to Express Yourself? Was ET generic because it was similar to Ace Of Base's song?
