Yeah, I don't see what that has to do with my post. I was merely responding to the post where someone asked for proof. You can't provide proof for either situations, so it's pointless to even argue it.

But without proof, how can you make such accusations then? All it comes off at this point is a bunch of Gaga hate-spout.

It's like when Taylor sold her album for $3.99 on Amazon and the pressed were claiming that's why she crossed a million, when in the end it didn't even account for 10% of her first week sales.

Exactly, and make it 4%. She sold 40,000 on Amazon in her first week if I remember correctly.

People keep bringing this up. I know I am not worried about her sales. I expect them to be high, and was ready to congratulate her for the hype, hard work, etc. that was put behind the album. So being worried isn't the situation. You're on one side, and that's against those who think this is dirty.
And it's not like Taylor. It's not like any situation where people bought the album because they wanted to. Those arguments were stupid. This however, is a credible argument. She's giving away the album and garnering sales from it.

Payola has always been a talk of high radio spins. It just hasn't started with GaGa.

Brilliant idea of promoting new material. Other labels should take note, & this is why Interscope handles her career perfectly.

Well you obviously do care otherwise you wouldn't have said what you did
People are pissed because Gaga stans have the nerve to drag down Britney and Rihanna for doing remixes, then defend this. Which is extremely hypocritical no matter which way you look at it. But hey, thats the way its always been, like when BTW got spammed so it couldn't trend and the monsters got mad, even though they did the exact same thing to Britney. Oh well..

What makes this promotional strategy divisive is the question of whether or not the giveaway album will be counted towards the album sales.

Fact is, this thread has been split into people who are glad GaGa's team have shown the initiative to make deals like this and people who are simply bummed that their faves didn't think of this idea first...

I demand a third group for stans who think it is pathetic.

I will seriously just laugh out loud if Billboard doesn't count this.

I think she's saying is that people were claiming that Taylor sold well because of the Amazon discount when in fact, it only sold 47k at Amazon out of 1 million of her sales. So, this could be a case where this phone/album tactic isn't that significant.

That is the purpose of the article.
Since the number of smartphones being sold is significant, this promotion might give BTW considerably bloated figures.
The article tells us that this promotion might give Gaga an additional 200k in album sales.

Did those artists give away their albums for free though? I didn't think so.

Thank you for explaining what I thought was a fairly straightforward response. My phone battery is dying and I can't respond to everyone. Some people have already convinced themselves that this will definitely give her a significant sales boosts when it's quite possible that it won't.
All I'll say is that Billboard typically does a breakdown of sales by vendor when first week sales are very high. Will this promotional deal add significant numbers like some of you are predicting (perhaps even hoping for)? We shall see.
