I think Kanye's problem will be timing. His album is already falling down the charts, and people are starting to anticipate other albums, including his joint album with Jay.

Can someone entertain Alternative Album talk with me? Obviously Radiohead is taking it, but who makes up the rest of the nominees? Death Cab for Cutie is releasing in April, so that's nominee number two. PJ Harvey is getting some of the best reviews she's had in ten years - but Bjork is also supposed to release this year, and if NARAS is picking one female to ride with, THEY ALWAYS CHOOSE QUEEN B(jork). Who is getting into this category?

Yes that's a huge factor imo. People are forgetting how far away Feb 2012 is lol.

4. Adele
5. Beyonce (will probably move up higher once the album drops)
6. Kanye
7. Taylor
8. Elton/Leon
9. Bruno
10. Cher Lloyd

Idk what it is about you and Cher sis, but I think Beyonce should be higher. She sweeps Grammy's everytime she's nominated. And for some reason, I don't see Gaga doing as well as people are expecting her to do...

He needs some hits. I've honestly forgotten about the album already, and I won't be surprised if the voters feel the same way come cut-off time...

How is he not a threat in the "big" categories? This is the first album in nearly a decade to get virtually unanimous PRAISE! I just..

We haven't even heard Radiohead, Coldplay, Gaga, Amy, Lauryn OR Beyonce's albums yet. You will not write off MBDTF so easily....and Cher Lloyd?

Right? If Kanye just had MBDTF from now until September 30th, he'd be in a much better position. But he's doing Watch the Throne, AND another solo album by summer?
that won't do. Add the fact that MBDTF is his first album to not produce any real HITS, and it can only spell trouble.
Oh ****, Fiona's coming back this year too. Can the women rule the Alternative roost? I hope so.

But, with the Rap categories especially, how many albums, expected to be released, do you think could actually trump Kanye's?? February is a while away, but I don't see people forgetting his album so easily.

Maybe not quality wise, but now all of the attention is shifting to Dr. Dre. Let's see what he does. He already has a hit on his hands.

Well they still force the voters to listen to the submitted material before they vote right? Am I right?

Please believe I know where you're coming from. But with the critically acclaimed "Recovery" not winning anything, I find it very hard for Kanye to win. I want him to, I just don't see it happening.

Is that how Katy got all those nominations?
I'm still mad at the Sade and Janelle snubs.

Recovery wasn't critically acclaimed, gorl. Check his Metacritic score.

Hmm I forgot about Dr. Dre. With 'Detox' having so many pushbacks, I just assumed it would happen again. Anywho, I don't think his would be any competition to Kanye's though. It seems to be basically an album full of features, while Kanye's is basically lyrical genius.

Metacritic Scores
Arcade Fire, The Suburbs - 93
Lady Gaga, The Fame Monster - 79
Eminem, Recovery - 73.
Recovery is many things, but critically acclaimed is not one of them. It certainly doesn't compare to the critical hosannas Kanye's received.
