I just gave this a full listen after not wanting to betray Alice but whoopsies.
Overall, it's fine, they will probably find their new sound after this album because this is in a similar lane as (III). I have to give it another listen to really see what stands out but so far.

This is tragic NIL is cute but not Top 10, Baptism is v/ overrated, Crimewave is a remix of another band, Knights is one of the weaker songs on the debut,, Pap Smear and Intimate are completely random choices imo, Kerosene being the highest from (III) is objectively false, Untrust Us is not excellent horrifying.
Alice is Pitchfork's darling, especially after Ethan proved to be an asshole.

I said it will be like Grimes' situation, people expected her to put a certain type of album only to make her most pop sugary work so far.
I'm sure Alice can now explore more genres and either go darker or dabble on something else, who knows? Ethan seems to have the final say on how the albums will sound so it's possible that she didn't have much input on that.
I gave the album a second listen and came to the conclusion that this feels like Ethan took the demos for (III) and made them more eclectic, it's cute but doesn't feel brand new

I don't know why she'd be bitter considering this is obviously their worst era sonically, visually and aesthetically. And the title is basically about Alice anyways.
