I think what caused Avril's downfall was the fact that her career was based on being the anti-Britney and Christina so when they faltered so did she.

Overall Madonna embraces new popstars (Britney, Christina, Beyoncé, Nicki, Katy, and even Gaga at the beginning) but she's also playfully abrasive. And often sarcastic.

The fact that Gaga made such a BIG deal about her calling BTW reductive rather than taking it as a harmless joke, says a lot about her dry character.

Gaga takes herself too serious cause she has a chip on her shoulder and something to prove.
