as much as she loathed releasing skater boi 2nd it built her audience of poser punk rock stans.

I think losing grip would have been a top 3 hit if released as a 2nd single

You take from the best and make it your own.
Taylor did a good job of taking Avril and Oops I did it again album with some 80s fluff in there as well

Britney used to do the same thing with regards to Madonna, MJ and Janet.

It's how you properly pay homage to those that inspired and influenced you instead of stealing/ripping off and then passing it off as your own.

Poor gaga/Beyonce/Nicki etc. At least Beyonce and Nicki survived the copycat backlash

Madonna ripped off her mask so she's now exposed and can't be an "artist" with impact now that she has no place to hide.

Most people that weren't kids or teens when gaga exploded saw directly her rip off of David bowie, Madonna, Grace jones with elements of Britney, Xtina (vocal esque) and a few others.

Since Madonna gave her stamp of approval early on people paid it no mind and let it be.

Success then got to gaga's head and she started being a little shady/diva esque.

Madonna certainly noticed and decided to put her to the test.

Rip her mask off and expose the reductiveness

AND THE LITMUS test is always how you recover PAST the hype. It's easily to score a lot of hits when the hype is up but what happens when the hype is down and/or the artist endures/faces backlash. How do they recover?

That shows longevity, talent, skill and resilience.

Madonna was dead wrong knowing this girl was not strong enough on her own to find an identity
