There are many amazing writers who don't go into the profession because of how underpaid they are. Being a good writer is difficult and requires a lottttt of talent
But that's basically on par with 21. Most critics recognized that it's a solid album but she needs to expand. It's fair criticism, not panning.

Even as a hardcore stan I admit she needs a change of subject material (or at least go in a new direction with love songs - because I honestly don't know what else she could sing about that's relevant to her). I'm giving her a pass with this album because she couldn't completely abandon her 21 audience, but it is time for a change.
I just hope she doesn't take 5 ****ing years to make it.

I don't like this excuse, she sold 30m albums, she had plenty opportunity to shake things up at least a BIT.
