If you're the kind of artist who makes music catered towards Grammy taste, then it matters. Beyonce, Adele, Sam Smith, Celine Dion, etc. They are performers whose music has little to no artistic value, they aren't innovative, they aren't subversive. Beyonce branched out a bit on her last album and won less Grammys than ever before for a reason. They like normalcy. They like safe, warm, fuzzy lyrics and sounds. If you're the kind of 'artist' compromising and making that type of music and STILL fail to get Grammys, then you can drag them for it.
If you're not, then who gives a ****? Bjork is brilliant but she doesn't get any Grammys because most people don't get her music, because most people have bad taste.
Then there's people whose music is just bad period (Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, Kelly Rowland, etc).
