And? What is this supposed to prove? That she's proud of her ethnicity? There are white Latinos and black Latinos. Melody Thornton from PCD is a black Latina.
They have a stronger voice, that doesn't mean it's better. Edith Piaf, Barbra Streisand, Linda Perry, Mylene Farmer Julie Andrews, lots of opera singers...they all have great voices
And there are black artists that did none of that and still suceeded. For instance, when Rihanna first appeared into the scene, she:
1) Wasn't known for her vocals
2) Wasn't known for her dancing
3) Wasn't known for her writing talent
4) Wasn't known for playing any kind of instrument
And none of that stopped her from smashing. That doesn't mean she isn't talented, but let's cut out the bull****
The artist you picked as an example happens to be the most beautiful black women and she happen to have Caucasian features. It is arguable that in order to become a huge, global star, artists (like rihanna etc) are forced to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards. And that's even to appeal to markets in South America for example where most people don't even look that European. Worldwide institutionalized racism runs deep. You're better off making a thread of how european standards of beauty have affected all black female singers.........
Because black celebs actually have to be talented and work three times as hard to be successful in our society.
No shade, but artists like Taylor wouldn't be successful if they were black. It's just the way it is.
No lies. Many white artists are praised out of the ass for being nothing more than mediocre garbage, unable to sing, dance or perform while blacks are called "overrated" when they have actual talent.
Black female singers do not necessarily have a stronger voice. It's just that the ones who managed to break through do. And if they don't, they have something else to offer. Janet Jackson and Ciara are terrific dancers. People don't waste time on black mediocrity, sans a few exceptions
It's probably because pop music looks for "soulful" voices. That's why all the white girls in pop music that are known for singing come from humble beginning and soul-influences.
Adele's story kind of confirms that. Here is a quote from an interview back in 2008:
"Her school years were not as encouraging. Born in Tottenham, north London, she was about the only white pupil in the class at her primary school. When she moved to south London with her mother and stepfather, aged 11, her rough comprehensive school did little to encourage her ambitions. She has said: "The teacher was a bit rubbish. They gave me a really hard time, trying to bribe me, saying that if I wanted to sing, I had to play clarinet to sing in the choir. So I left."
But it was here and through her classmates that she picked up R&B and would spend her lunch breaks singing R&B songs. At 13, she bought greatest hits albums by Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James, though she has admitted that it was more to impress classmates; she didn't actually listen to them until a few years later."
And what about Britney Spears, Heidi Montag, Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson?? I think that you left them out to make your stereotyping appear more true to the dummys of ATRL
The logic in this thread is so idiotic. By this logic, mixed singers like Mariah, Bey, Tinashe, etc. would be better singers if they were fully black. As far as I'm concerned, singing ability can only be judged on a person by person basis, the ignorant generalizations (positive or negative) need to stop.
