Now's where the songs get REALLY REALLY REALLY good
60. Flying Lotus - "Never Catch Me"
MMMM! Kendrick's rapping is why I love this track. The Jazz elements ebb and flow and he manages to curve his voice and flow to perfectly fit the sort of rapidly changing song structures of the album. When I first heard it, I was disappointed at how quiet his voice was mixed but that was stupid of me, if it wasn't mixed like that it would sound crappy.
59. Wild Beasts - "Sweet Spot"
Why this wasn't the lead single, I do not know. It's easily the best introduction (for me and for many others) to the album. It pulls the perfect Depeche Mode trick - create the perfect Synth hook and the perfect vocal hook an make them compliment each other. Sounds simple but it's really not pulled off effectively often. It is here though.
58. Grace Jones - "Original Beast"
I haven't even seen the movie, but when I heard Grace Jones had a new song I rushed to hear this. I was not disappointed. It has the darker Pop vibe of Hurricane but she still has those Reggae vibes. The drums are very Caribbean and African, which fits Grace Jones chanting very well. When the synths come in, your attention is DEMANDED.
57. Jungle - "Julia"
Essentially all the songs function as one on the album, so I guess I picked this song because I heard it the most on the radio. But I mean it has what the rest of the album has, unison singing, funky disco vibes, nice melodies, all that good ****.
56. Katy B - "Everything"
Had the two best songs on the album been released in 2014, you bet your ass she would be in my top 30, but here we have Everything. It's really quite lame that I compared it to 5AM/Aaliyah but it's still fantastic. The defeated feel in the verses vs the desperate belting in the chorus gives the song emotional tension. Plus repeating "I will be the one" with different rhythms works effectively. That trick doesn't always though but Katy B knows how to treat us right.
