"Singing Radiohead at the top of our lungs / With the boom box blaring as we're falling in love / Got a bottle of whatever, but it's getting us drunk / Singing here's to never growing up..."
Is... is that 2002 Avril in the music video? Holy ****, it is. Well, sort of. If you're an Avril Lavigne stan like I am, this song was an incredible earworm from the minute the first snippet was released. The video continued that slayage. Though Here's to Never Growing Up failed to match Avril's peak at #1 with What the Hell on my Top 100 of 2011, Avril captivated me throughout 2013 with the beginning of her self-titled era. Despite the lack of commercial success, I think Avril is due for a smash with her next era. Get well soon, Queen Empress!

Same Love Mack was everywhere in 2013, I think my favorite song of his would be Thrift Shop though.
and I still think that Blurred Lines is a great song to be honest. it's funny how everyone suddenly turned into some sort of advocate against sexism when it became popular.
Same Love just slayed me Thrift Shop and Blurred Lines are still cute bops

woo lord this is messy let's get it over with
Hope y'all are enjoying the mess, thanks for sticking around
"It don't matter if you don't believe / Come Sunday morning, you best be there in the front row like you're supposed to... / Mama's hooked on Mary Kay / Brother's hooked on Mary Jane / Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down..."
I hope you're not surprised to see Kacey Musgraves in the Top 3. I actually discovered Merry 'Go Round in late 2012, and this song slayed me throughout the entire year. Again, Kacey's songwriting is incredible, and as a debut single, I could not get enough of this song. Kacey makes country music with lyrics that captivate those who don't usually listen to country music. This is precisely what makes Kacey so captivating for mainstream audiences. Slay me, Kacey.

"'Cause I don't wanna lose you now / I'm lookin' right at the other half of me / It's like you're my mirror / My mirror staring back at me"
I actually bought the 20/20 Experience when it was released in 2013. The production blew me away. This track is one of the standouts. I like the radio edit, but the album version slays on a completely different level. Lyrically, only one song surpasses Mirrors as the most emotionally and musically incredible song of 2013. When you love someone, they're an inseparable part of you. It's like looking into a mirror- you know each other's secrets, you share a life together.

1. Brand New - Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't
"I am heaven sent / Don't you dare forget... / I think in decimals and dollars / I am the cause to all your problems / Shelter from cold / We are never alone / Coordinate brain and mouth / Then ask me whats it like to have / Myself so figured out / I wish I knew...."
Honestly, nothing released in 2013 can match this song lyrically or sonically. G*ddamn. Screw the pop girls. I'll be damned if you try to argue that any song comes close to this level. It's reminiscent of Let Go-era Avril Lavigne. It's the type of indie-pop-alternative that needs to make a comeback. The lyrics are EVERYTHING. It's like a page torn out of my own diary. As a songwriter, this is what I achieve to create. I urge you to at least try to listen to this song even if you're not usually a fan of this type of music.
