The fact that you have to resort to reduce it to females to make a point.
2000 NSYNC (NSA) 2.4 million
 2000 Eminem (TMM) 1.7 million
 2000 BSB (B&B) 1.5 million

Plus:
 1999 BSB (Millennium) 1.1 million
 2001 NSYNC (Celebrity) 1.8 million

Of course it's a matter of acts having massive appeal. NSYNC, BSB and Eminem domination supports that. But, are you REALLY going to deny that it was easier to sell albums in 2000 than now? It's common sense. Opening with a +milli three times in a row now >>>> selling 1.3 million more than a decade ago.

Where did I ever deny it was easier to sell albums in 2000 than 2014?
The fact of the matter is, only 7 female artists debuted with 100k+ in 2000 and only three females went #1 that year and each for one week (Madonna, Britney and Celine) despite more than four times as many major females releasing that year than this year.

Also, only two female artists debuted with 1M+ in the physical era (one being in 2004 when iTunes was already a thing) which lasted 50+ years and already we've had two females debut with 1M+ in the digital era and one of them has done it three times. The majority of female debuts over 1M+ have happened in the 2010s, as crazy as that is to believe, and that number will just grow when Adele releases next year.

Taylor's achievement is incredible but don't bandwagon her achievement as a Fighter and then hide behind it to downplay an artist you don't like.

Are any of them females? Why didn't Christina, Mandy, Jessica, Ashley, Willa, and other Britney clones sell 1 million first week?

But anyway, the fact that this is the third time she opens with more than a million is more impressive than selling 1.3 million when albums sales were at their peak, so kudos to TayLOR and her massive appeal either way. I hope this opens ATRL eyes about a thing or two related to ATRL's trinity.

Another bandwagoner, seriously, most of you are pitiful, most of us aren't even bothered by the Lord breaking the record, just a handful of delusional ones are stating otherwise but slay, I guess

A high 1 million debut was easier in the early 2000's.

There's a reason sales peaked 2000-2004. Huge openings, and huge overall sales.

The average #1 debut in 2000 sold 795,000.

It is only one retailer, this may be just from Target, they reported that iTunes was at ~600k.

It's not bandwagonning. People are just happy that the Army will finally shut up about this not so impressive record. If the Army didn't act all mighty about the 4th biggest opening in 2000, no one would care.
This thread will be a mess either way, if Taylor doesnt break it, you guys will be dragging everyone.

Her Target numbers were predicted to do like 600k, I thought. I guess Target doesn't necessarily have to give all of their numbers at a time, but I would expect that they do. Those are most likely iTunes numbers.

Wrong way. iTunes was projected to be 600k+ and Target 400k+.

The army doesn't even brag about that record, most of they go with the diamond albums **** and most of the people are bandwagoning see Nicole, Duca, Toxicity, some of the hive, fighters, etc, also the record is about female sales so don't know why you're trying it with the 4th debut of the year when NO other female had sold more in first week until now...

Leave Britney and the Army alone For real. It was funny last week..

People on this site are so obsessed with "hating" "shading" etc. it's so embarrassing.

When is the next update coming ? Tomorrow ?

But I thought the Army wasn't fuming.

Also, this mentality of "a 1 stan shading 2" is so childish and stupid, but I must say I am not surprised.

Gaga's opening doesn't count, we all know how she got that and about Adele, we will see. And yes, '10s has had more milli female openings solely thanks to Taylor, which is EXACTLY my point. Her achievement(s) >>>>>> Britney's. So, you're basically agreeing with me but I guess your delusion as a Britney stan keeps you away from accepting it. And what does being a fighter has to do with anything? The desperation and excuses.
