It is sad but I don't think anything can pull it out of its slump. It isn't just pirating though, there are several factors (like the great upswing in student loans, debt, people in the US never recovering from the recession). Hopefully artists will continue to be innovative and try to give it some life!

Not when Streaming is the only reason music industry earnings overall didn't go down last year, not when Streaming is STOPPING piracy which is the reason the sales went down the drain to begin with.

Amount paid per stream, and amount of streams is still skyrocketing. Streaming is matching the losses.

People are going from pirating to actually streaming and getting artists money in their pockets.

I think the member adressed the low numbers rather than the "music industry destroyed by..." sentence. At least that's how I read it - numbers are low because people are moving to streaming.

HDD put ARTPOP @ 400k MONTHS before release.

Early predictions before actual release have NEVER been reliable. They also predicted 20/20 Experience would do 400k, yet it did 960k.

Predictions during release week ARE the accurate ones. They'll be off like 25k at most in an unlikely situation. They said ARTPOP would do 240-260k during release week first day, and it did 259k.
