I really would love to make an ATRL album one day… a compilation of all the willing songwriters' best songs and see if we can get a Grammy nom or something…
Nab some producers' from the producers' thread… get this thing poppin'!
So, to celebrate 100 pages, I am going to post a song I wrote! I haven't posted something I wrote in a long time, but this song is about a child with a big imagination who is dying (though it's never stated directly) and them going to their "Imagine Nation" to rule over it. I usually don't write a song with a not-so-obvious meaning, but I really like it.
Fun fact: There's a children's book company called Imagine Nation, so if I ever wanted to release this song, I couldn't name it "Imagine Nation"
Imagine Nation
Hey there, bright eyes
Living in Imagine Nation
Your kingdom in the sky
Couldn’t bear to wait
Hey there, young one
You filled our world with wonder
Now you’re in the setting sun
As the moon pulls it under
Hey, don’t cry
Blankets of stars will hold you tight
Hey, don’t cry
You are the brightest of the night
Fly high
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
Hey there, pure soul
You still live in dreams of many
You’re there in every story told
In every word that’s said
Hey there, some day
We’ll be in the world you made
Until we go to make our way
We’ll be left here still amazed
Hey, don’t cry
Blankets of stars will hold you tight
Hey, don’t cry
You are the brightest of the night
Fly high
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
Don’t let Imagine Nation die
And I don't think you should. Keep it "Imagination" or be clever and call it "ImagiNation" with a clever hint that it's about a nation and not just the imagination!
It's classic Hug and I love it!
I've always wondered what style you felt was your strongest, your child-like wonder or your teen-like angst…!?
HAZE (written with Justin Timberlake in mind and I re-wrote the 2nd verse and bridge)
VERSE I
We're a perfect match to ignite a fire
Candlelight to inferno, and your heart's the lighter
I can you hear you laugh as the flames go higher
Shining bright, it's your turn now, it's your turn to cry now
PRE-CHORUS
Rivers of tears couldn't wash it away
I been sittin here too long, I been here for days
Things really haven't changed, you been leaving here unscathed
Now I'm wanting you to fade, like a smoke that turns to haze
CHORUS I
You can do what you think I deserve
I been letting it hurt
You're the lighter that burns
But I live & I learn
And I know that for certain
We're a flame left deserted
But you never been hurtin
Never knew what the worst is
HOOK I
Imma let the rain
Turn us to haze
To hell with our days
It can drown em away[x2]
VERSE II
You obscure my vision, not sure about my precision
Never get to get rid of me, oh, you got to be kidding me
You're not sure that I'm listening, but you're out, and you're not with me
Well, I guess that it's clear to me, that the end here is plain to see
PRE-CHORUS
CHORUS I
HOOK I
BRIDGE
I don't want to remember this
I erase all the moments
Get you gone, til I'm desolate
Just so that you don't own me
CHORUS I
CHORUS II
You can do what you think I deserve
I been letting it hurt
Now I'm watching you burn
Now the tables have turned
And I know that for certain
You're a flame left deserted
I have pulled the curtain
You're the weaker person
HOOK I
HOOK II
Imma let the rain
Do what it may
To hell with our days
Like the haze that fades[x2]
OUTRO
You're the weaker person[x4]
STORIES ALL THE TIME
VERSE I
We are reaching for some reason, dealing with ourselves, yeah
We got problems, we be reeling, hurtin like it's hell, yeah
I got feelings, we be feeling, certain that we fell, yeah
You stay leaving, stay concealing, go ahead and tell that...
CHORUS
...Story all the time
Bout the way that you & I
Stayed up restless all the night
How we made up when we fight
Sad the rest was all a lie
All your stories all the time
You can't tell me if you try
How your love was do or die
I know your... [x2]
VERSE II
We are fighting, for some reason, laugh and cry some tears, yeah
We got issues, I've be trying, as you lied for years, yeah
Not gon miss you, stay denying, love's your greatest fear, yeah
I been trying, you ain't trying, last time that I hear that...
CHORUS
RAP
Just a broken heart that was once my idol
He was my truth, but he just a lie though
He was the one I could rest with, eyes closed
Eyes opened up to new lows, exposed
What should I cry for?
We were on a tight rope
Slipped on a slope, and blew up like July 4
Smoke in the air, and the night was cutthroat
Tension in the air, but not knowing what for
Walk out my door, love like folklore
Maybe it's a tragedy left as ignored
Maybe it's a fantasy to clean up, your chore
Maybe it's a fantasy of love just gone bored
Who am I kidding?
I got feelings and I won't let you forget it
I want you to know it, and I'm wanting you to dread it
Linger in your thoughts like a long lost presence
Haunting all your essence, thank me for the present
CHORUS
TMLIYB (written with Bruno Mars in mind)
VERSE I
Addicted to that flash of light in your eyes
Let them light up the night as we reach heaven bout a thousand times
Moonshine kind of loving, you want me to stay out of sight
But still the night's so wild, it's a blessing just the way we like
HOOK
You not sure I should be him
But I know you gon like this
Like the way this move gon twist
Like this way this move gon hit
You not sure I should be him
On a line that looks so thin
I can't win, why can't I win?
Only him when the lights dim out
CHORUS
Treat me like I'm your baby, tease me
Treat me like you can't tame or seize me
Treat me like you could save me, need me
Kiss me, cause we got all these reasons
Treat me right, because I'm not treason
Treat me right, my god, you're pleasin
Treat me right, all night, all night
Treat me right, all night, all night
VERSE II
Rejection is the motivator
And I'll still be here to love you later
Can't be clear enough if I'll make ya
Feel tonight's the night, the most amazin
I know you wonder, wonder, wonder
Why you wanna hide me under
Are you afraid I'll steal your thunder?
I won't bring rain, I'll just bring summer
HOOK
CHORUS
BRIDGE
You shouldn't close the page, close the page
I'm your poison of shame, poison of shame
You play a poisonous game, poisonous game
Got no reason to play, reason to play x2
CHORUS
SUMMER SNOW
VERSE I
Makes no sense at all
Two opposing forces
Come meet where we are
We have made our choices
When the Spring is gone
Logic is avoided
What we bring is wrong
But we've raised our voices
HOOK
We're not stable, we're volatile
Poison froze in an icicle
Stabs our heart while we're makin love
Pulled apart in the snowy dust
Sometimes, we feel a summer rush
When we don't feel a winter's gust
We can burn like a desert dust
All we're feeling, it's up to us
CHORUS
Summer snow
Simmers, till the rain pours
Heat in all this icy cold
Sky is gold, the ground glows
Summer snow
Sometimes warm, sometimes cold
None of us ever know
Which way the day will go
VERSE II
We can make it thunder
In a frozen tundra
We can make it blizzard
In the warmest summer
We can make it lightning
When the air's not thinner
We can make it simmer
When the chill is biting
HOOK
We're not stable, we're volatile
Poison froze in an icicle
Stabs our heart while we're makin love
Pulled apart in the snowy dust
Sometimes, we feel a summer rush
When we don't feel a winter's gust
We can burn like a desert dust
All we're feeling, it's up to us
CHORUS
Summer snow
Simmers, till the rain pours
Heat in all this icy cold
Sky is gold, the ground glows
Summer snow
Sometimes warm, sometimes cold
None of us ever know
Which way the day will go
BRIDGE
Let's make this summer unique
You know this thing, you and me
This does not make us weak
We just change every week
Winter and summer meet
When you kiss on my cheek
Lips so cold, but so sweet
Make me warm and feel heat
CHORUS
SSI (written with Ariana Grande in mind)
VERSE I
One after another, but I've never been in love
Only good at being crushed
They're all rude and only lust
Why am I adjusting to the way that I've become?
Only I would be this dumb
I go to you, cause I'm lost
PRE-CHORUS I
You were supposed to console me, but you once told me we should've been
I can see it again
That image of us as friends
Closer and closer, I see you go to reach out your hand
I think I understand!
We've always been more than this
CHORUS
Piece me together, while I'm as light as a feather
I've been under the weather, I'll let you lessen the pressure
Seek me wherever, till I'm right where your nearer
And I'll you love whenever, till I get you forever
They say love doesn't last, doesn't stay this way
I won't give up on you, just give your all to me
HOOK
Uh, I should've seen it coming, uh, I should've seen it coming
Why did I look for what wasn't, when you always gave me something?
Uh, I should've seen it coming, uh, I should've seen it coming
Why did I look for what wasn't, when you always gave me something?[x2]
VERSE II
One night leads into another, you and I are just discovered
We are lying in the covers
After lying to each other
Talking through all of our lovers, and deleting all their numbers
I went to you to recover
Guess I loved that you were wondering
PRE-CHORUS II
How you always knew me, and I never had a clue
That it's always been you
That I should've loved you
You were so true to me, yet I never saw the truth
Guess what I was going through
Left me only to be used
CHORUS
HOOK
BRIDGE
I should've seen it, but I didn't believe in
Anything, till you came in
But you've always been chasing
And my heart was racing away
But it was wasting away
Till you stopped the decay
And you stayed with me
Through all the nights, baby
CHORUS
BRIDGE
HOOK x2
GUITAR ON THE RADIO
VERSE I
All it takes is one note, one beat
To know that you have been completed
Show me that you can repeat it
Only you could get me feeling
This way, every evening
I sway on my feet and
I feel every meaning
Till it needs more repeating
PRE-CHORUS
I could dance all night
You and I, so right
So why?
Are you nowhere in sight?
Oh my.
Oh my.
Oh my, I I I
I ask all the time
Why you're not on the dial
I've thought that you're all mine
But you deserve to shine
Oh my.
Oh my
Oh my, I I I
CHORUS
You're my guitar on the radio
My heartstrings dancing more and more
Electricity starts to flow
Through my body, and onto yours
You're my guitar on the radio
You're what I want, with every part
You take me where the song goes
You're what I end up looking for
HOOK
Tell me, where did the guitar on the radio go?
Tell me, where did the guitar on the radio go?
Oh oh oh oh oh
Where did the guitar on the radio go?
VERSE II
All it takes is one chord, one harmony
Your playing plays through all of me
You're patiently waiting for me
To get you where you wanna be
Know one day, that they'll dance with me
They'll know what they've been missing
And what you're blessed with, now come and step with
This instrument that's heaven sent
PRE-CHORUS
CHORUS
HOOK
BRIDGE 1
She wants to play, now I want her to stay
Now you all, let her have her way! x2
GUITAR SOLO
CHORUS
BRIDGE 2
She wants her part, now never let her not
She wants your heart, so give her the spotlight!
Make sure you move right
Give her the spotlight!
HOOK
RED ROSE (written with Taylor Swift in mind)
VERSE I
You miss my red rose lips
As you take another sip
And get the closer to the edge
To the end of your descendance
So, stop all your pretending
The message that I'm sending
Is you don't need to catch me
I've kept myself from falling
PRE-CHORUS
It's not that you were in the wrong
But together, we're imposters
It's not that I knew all along
That we weren't what once we thought of
It's not that we weren't once in love
But you couldn't be my armor
It's not that he will be the one
But his presence makes me stronger
CHORUS
Rows and rows of red roses
Showing all their thorns
They motion me to mourn
For what we've never known
But, I know what's important:
Taking what I'm done with
Making it to something
One can fall in love with
Rows and rows of red roses
In the wrong moment
Rows and rows of red roses
Gone by the morning
VERSE II
You miss my bright blue eyes
As you sit around and cry
Think about it for a while
How you think that you should try
Stop remembering, asking me
All that you'd thought we'd be
Longer and longer,
You're severed, but lingering
PRE-CHORUS
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Our love waned into the ground
Shame it only brought you down
I have bloomed into myself
Patience grew me into health x2
PRE-CHORUS II
It's not that he will be the one
But his presence makes me stronger
CHORUS
OUTRO
Left the flowers on my porch door
So you'd know we'd never be anymore
There were gone by the morning
So you'd know someone else owned my heart

I really like both of these!
I might share one tomorrow. I've got a bunch of scrap lyrics that I write randomly. I think I might see if I can work them into an actual song.
Well, you have to sign to ASCAP or BMI or get accepted to SESAC… It also helps to have your songs already copyrighted the official or unofficial/cheap way… your choice… but if you sign with ASCAP or BMI, whatever songs you submit will be automatically copyrighted (at least, that's what I've heard…).
Basically being signed there, you'll already have connections to whatever camps are looking…
So you mean that if I sign up for one of those organizations, then I'll be able to sell my songs? I'm not sure how that works though. Like do I just post up a song lyric and then let someone take it and record it and then pay me? Or like if someone who wants the song, wants to edit the lyrics a little bit, then how will that work? Etc etc.

I'm completely clueless, I am so sorry.
I always thought of it like a message board: like there is a bunch of different artists looking for certain types of songs, and you have to "reply" to them about your concepts and ideas. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know to be "official", you have to have a team/organization behind you, and those three are the biggest organizations in the world right now for songwriters.
Oh, and BTW, if it's copyrighted, only you can change the words. They do it, you have the right to sue them...
This song is a song I wrote a while back about feeling lost and not knowing where I'm headed in life - it was written in January, around my 20th birthday.
Nighttime
Happy birthday, you young thing, so old
Looking in the mirror into eyes so damn cold
Wasn’t it yesterday there was love in my eyes?
Wasn’t it just last week that I was a child?
I’m supposed to grow up
I put it off for so long
Now I don’t know where I belong
I keep asking myself where all the time has gone
Keep on wondering how life will go on
Thinking to myself where do I go?
I’m hopeless
Stuck on a road that’s going nowhere
And I’m scared of where it will lead
I walk around like a zombie in the light
But I reanimate in the nighttime
(x4)
Nighttime, nighttime
The nighttime
Dreams are all that I have left
Dreams are all that I collect
Can’t keep wandering through life
No direction
Got to get my **** together
Got to blast this stormy weather
Can’t keep getting so brought down
Got to turn it round somehow
I keep asking myself where all the time has gone
Keep on wondering how life will go on
Thinking to myself where do I go?
I’m hopeless
Stuck on a road that’s going nowhere
And I’m scared of where it will lead
I walk around like a zombie in the light
But I reanimate in the nighttime
(x4)
Nighttime, nighttime
The nighttime
One day, everybody has to fall
I hope by then that I have seen it all
A quarter of life has gone, a quarter will go by soon
What am I to do?
Cause one day, my number’s going to call
I’ll be running scared when it calls
Running scared when it calls
Nighttime
Nighttime is my time
Nighttime
The nighttime
I keep asking myself where all the time has gone
Keep on wondering how life will go on
Thinking to myself where do I go?
I’m hopeless
Stuck on a road that’s going nowhere
And I’m scared of where it will lead
I walk around like a zombie in the light
But I reanimate in the nighttime
(x4)
Nighttime, nighttime
The nighttime
I don’t know where to go
But I don’t feel safe in my home
Walk around like a zombie, so dead-eyed
But my eyes come alive in the nighttime
I've recently gone back to a song I had written for a game here...not quite sure if it's finished yet but...
Last Call
Lying here not knowing what to do
I have an idea but what to choose
Should I continue living or just leave
I make my decision as I breathe...
Breathe in, breathe out
One fell swoop, lights out
Breathe in, breathe out
No one can help me now
Before I begin
I let one last thought seep in
Would this really solve that
A solutionI can't take back
Breathe in, breathe out
One fell swoop, lights out
Breathe in, breathe out
No one can help me now
As it crosses the bridge
I hear you walk in
I feel myself move faster
With every part of me leaking out
You rush over and as you're freaking out
You realize it's a little too late
I've already met my fate
Breathe in, breathe out
One fell swoop, lights out
Breathe in, breathe out
No one can help me now
This thread needs a good sis bump! It's been a long while since I wrote something, but listening to Don't Be Gone Too Long on this gray, chilly day inspired me. I guess you could say it's a bit like it.
Another World
Whisked on a whim by the winds of a dream
Fly on the wings of a belief that we’re free
The fact that you’re here is all that I need
Your lips on my lips gives me power to breathe
The walls are so high, but we’ll rise above
We don’t have much time, but tonight is enough
I’m in another world
Your kiss a secret that no one else heard
I’m on another plane
You’re inside my mind running in my veins
In another world
I’m in another world
I’m in another world
In another world
Bring on the light lightning crashes the night
You took me so close told me we’d be alright
Scared, yet I’m calm; I’m afraid, but we’re safe
Your hands round my waist feels like I’m in outer space
The stones that are cast keep on flying by
We don’t have much time but we have tonight
I’m in another world
Your kiss a secret that no one else heard
I’m on another plane
You’re inside my mind running in my veins
I’m in another world
Your kiss a secret that no one else heard
I’m on another plane
You’re inside my mind running in my veins
In another world
I’m in another world
I’m in another world
In another world
Hold me like I’m special
Mold me like a metal
Take me like a pill
Drink me in til you’re filled
I’ll tell you something special
You’re my prize; you’re my medal
You’re my best; nothing’s better
I want you here forever
I’m in another world
Your kiss a secret that no one else heard
I’m on another plane
You’re inside my mind running in my veins
I’m in another world
Your kiss a secret that no one else heard
I’m on another plane
You’re inside my mind running in my veins
In another world
I’m in another world
I’m in another world
In another world
Whisked on a whim by the winds of a dream
Fly on the wings of a belief that we’re free
Anyway, although I am a believer of letting people give their own meanings to songs, I wanted to write this as a couple who have people being against them being together, but not caring since just their company puts them on cloud nine. Not the most innovative topic, but there are some parts of it I am really proud of.
I've been writing songs and developing concept album ideas since I was about 19 and this is one of the songs I've written. Often what happens, is that the notes that form the vocal melody that the singer sings, comes to me and I write according to what I have in my head.
I'm learning to compose and play the guitar with a family friend and hopefully this is will help me become a better writer.
Gotta Get Out
An aggressive-sounding, pop song that is about being in a troubled relationship with someone, who makes you feel unsafe and all you want to do, is find a quick and fast way to leave him, before it's too late and you go down with him.
(Intro)
I gotta get out, gotta get out of here
I gotta pack my bags and leave my keys
I gotta get out, gotta get out of here
I gotta get out, before I rest in peace
(Verse) (*What I have now - Present)
Flash forward; this is what my life's become
Our loves full of regret that I've succumb
To your effect that have taken over my mind
It's taken too long to realise I'm dying inside
A life of crime is not what I had in mind
I have to run away so I can survive
With no one to call and no one to hold
You're left with your hands, all on your own
(Pre-Chorus)
What we had was special
What it's become is fatale
Your love was precious
Your touch is infectious
(Chorus)
This love is not going to make it
And we can't pretend or fake this
Your priorities screwed and it's me you lose
It won't be me who's going down, going down
This life is ours to live it
And we've come as far as we can go
It's finally about time that you should know
Baby you’re going down, baby you’re going down
I gotta get out, gotta get out of here
I gotta pack my bags and leave my keys
I gotta get out, gotta get out of here
I gotta get out, before I rest in peace
(Verse) (What I want - past)
Wish I could rewind to another time
To live another day, another life not mine
I threw my heart and my faith into the fray
This is all I get, chaos to my dismay
A life full of laughter is what should be mine
But tears and disaster just clouds my eyes
How did we fall apart, does anyone know
The end of us is forever, we go solo
I may NEVER use this, but I love it, regardless… No verses, just hooks & pre-chorus!
For those who don't click the song link, I was going for a reggae/dancehall meets electro feel for this…
Maybe someone would like to take this off my hands…
Lyrics
Pre-Chorus:
The way that we blend
Don't want this to end
The second the lights turn on
'Cause soon as we clicked
It was like a flick
Our hearts were lost in the song
This raw energy
And this chemistry
Was magic not after long
'Cause in a blink of an eye
We were gone…
Chorus:
So take your hand into mine
We can go 'round the world in one night
With you here by my side
We can go 'round the world in one night
There's a billion stars that shine
But not as bright as you and I
So trust in me, don't think twice
We can go 'round the world in one night
Hook:
We can go 'round
The world
In just
One night
I really would love to make an ATRL album one day… a compilation of all the willing songwriters' best songs and see if we can get a Grammy nom or something…
Nab some producers' from the producers' thread… get this thing poppin'!
omg I love this idea!
