Also, Gwen was in her 30s when she started her solo career. She was much more masterful at utilizing certain cultures for her music and videos than someone like Taylor or Miley. I guess it also helps that she actually had a crossover presence beforehand.

I like this more. The intro and first verse are celestial.
Gwen never really mattered in the grand scheme of things (hence why so many people fake stan for her on here since she doesn't form a threat to anyone) hence no1curred about dragging her combining different cultures.
As a fan of artists who have never used gimmicks to further their careers, I can honestly say that Beyonce's exploitation of her daughter is utterly repulsive.
Didn't Rhibola talk about the Chris incident in a dozen magazines and a do an Oprah special in the run up to Unapologetic?
I find it being a good way to expose different kinds of cultures to people which can result to it being more accepted and "normal." But don't drag me, I'm not a sociology major.
No i agree with you. I think it definitely helps the human psyche appreciate cultures more when they're regularly in the public eye. My only problem is when those cultures are appropriated to the point it takes away all the originality e.g. tribal print clothing/dashiki.
I wouldn't say Taylor's using twerking in her video was utilising other cultures. She was just using a popular style of dance and there were white girls twerking too...

I agree, and that's why I understand why some may have a problem with it. Someone like Iggy Azalea shouldn't appropriate other cultures. Her Bounce video explains it all, although it's still a tune lolz.
