I'm still mad at Kvitova. Of course she (and Halep, but Halep was smart with the tanking) would play the week BEFORE a slam so if she goes deep that's 3 full weeks of tennis. And knowing her (everyone on TF calls her P3tra) she's gonna be in 3 set tussles every round with flops which will further tire her out .

She definitely isn't getting the number 1 ranking, well it's not like Serena was gonna lose 1st round either

see i don't think Simona tanked. it was a stupid decision from her to do the Bucharest tournament right after Wimbledon when everyone was already resting and as a result she had to skip Montreal so she wouldn't tire herself too much. but what she didn't see coming was the rustiness in Cinci and the early loss in QFs. add that to the 2nd round loss in NH and she's left with 4 matches in this entire HC season while every top player has like... at least 8? i PRAY she will get it together in time.

Points + Ranking right now

(1) Serena: 9430 pts
(2) Halep: 6750 pts

Points without the US Open on and after New Haven

Serena: 7430 pts
Halep: 6310 pts


If Halep defeats Serena in the finals the points would be

Serena: 8830 pts
Halep: 8310 pts

If Halep wins and Serena loses in the semis

Serena: 8330 pts
Halep: 8310 pts

So one of Halep's conditions is for Serena NOT to reach the semis. Another is for Kvitova not to win the US Open.

Let me find out if Halep does one round better (or equal)

If Halep loses in semifinals and Serena loses in first round

Serena: 7435 pts
Halep: 7710 pts


If Halep loses in the semifinals and Serena loses in fourth round
Serena: 7710 pts
Halep: 7710 pts

So this is interesting

For Simona Halep to become number 1

1) Serena must not reach the Quarters or better
2) Petra Kvitova must not win the tournament
3) Has to make the semifinals or better

If Halep loses in the semis and Serena loses in the fourth, they'd become co-world number 1s. It will probably be for a week or two and would end most likely in Tokyo (or Beijing, whichever comes first)

Congrats to GOAT Petra (not a nickname ) showing up and handling Rybarikova with relative ease. I'm not sure if her win here makes her number 1 chances at the USO easier, will probably do some calculations later if I feel like it
