A little bit, but nothing drastic. Even if I got straight As during my first quarter of school, I don't think it would do much. I'm hoping my "additional comments" essay explaining my circumstances will help. Sophomore year was a mess for me in multiple ways and I'm hoping one of these places will be understanding. There are still a lot of good schools in my score/GPA range though. I'll be fine regardless, but obviously getting into one of my dream schools would be ideal

Same. I was filling out the Common App yesterday and my additional comments was literally bigger than my actual essay. It was like a mini-autobiography.
I dropped out of college after my sophomore year. My daddy died and I had a mental breakdown.
I am trying to go back, but I am no longer eligible for scholarships, so I am going to have to take out some big loans and pull a Bad Romance diamond certified 2 years of academic slayage.
I am just trying to decide what I am going to do. I am leaning towards pharmacy because that is practical, but I love foreign languages, and my dream is to work at the U.N. as a translator/assistant. I am torn
Yeah, I am. I've only been working for a little bit...I'd say it's easy but it can get boring. I work in retail right now so it's always busy so the day goes by relatively fast and I enjoy working with non annoying customers. I knew that it was going to be boring going into it, but the financial stability and "easiness" of the job definitely makes it worth it for me. I like expensive things so....
That's so great. I have about 25k, which is honestly nothing and I thank my parents every day for paying for my school. I bought my mom a Chanel boybag with my first cheque, lol.

As for these Ivy league schools and whatnot, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were very rich or getting their tuition paid for by the school/scholarships (meaning you're very brilliant)
Fun fact:
If you go to an Ivy League or equivalent and your parents make 60k or less,
you can expect to basically go for free. The schools have that much money.
Ivies don't even factor in financial need when admitting candidates.

It's okay. I'm in a similar boat. The only difference being that I haven't actually dropped out since my third semester. I'm still taking one or two classes a semester but.. otherwise.. I'm not really taking anything. Just doing everything to get my Associates at this point and figure out the pieces from there. Be strong.
I think my essay will really have to be my saving grace. Do you guys have ideas on what you're gonna write about?
I don't mean to be a buzzkill, lol, but your essay would have to detail some sort of extenuating circumstance to really get them to overlook your GPA/SAT scores. Those 2 things are really what the schools are looking for, the letters and extra curricula's are really just extras.

I am so going to do the same for my parents after I graduate and start working. College wouldn't have been possible without their help, and honestly with everything that's led up to this point.

lol, it's typically 8 years of school. 4 years for your undergrad (some get in after 3 years) and 4 years for the doctorate.
It's a lot of hard work and dedication but it's not necessarily "difficult" in terms of material that you have to learn, at least in my opinion. A lot of people who can't get into medical school go to pharmacy.

Yes!!! I have so much I want to say but I'm not sure if it's relevant. Also since so many people utilize that feature, do colleges really read them? Like everyone has problems, but what actually affects the admissions decision? I feel like the value has gone down since so many people feel the need to share "additional comments"

Well the UC application essays are really straight forward imo, so I have basic outlines for those. But I have no idea what to do for my Common App essay
