Not trash by any means. It all depends on where you look. If you're looking @ the "pop girls/mainstream" then yeah i guess you could say the quality has been lacking. But its dependent on the theme the Committee go far.
You have Ed Sheeran, The Black Keys, Sky, Blood Orange. If they want to go REAL alternative, their is BANKS, FKA etc. Its possible it will be nominated but i heavily doubt it will be an automatic winner.
Ed Sheeran and The Black Keys will probably get nominated. FKA twigs obviously deserves to get nominated but I doubt she'll submit. BANKS is pretty good but I don't see Grammy recognition for her.
Obviously mainstream has been disastrous but overall music just seemed to have stalled minus a few gems. I bet 2015 will be way better though.

BANKSY is like a critical darling already. She's comparable to HAIM in the case the critics, fans love her and she's doing great at her shows as well. Plus her album will be well recieved as well. HAIM couldn't peak in time for the nominations and/or were sort of competing with LORDE for "new bitch(es) on the block" award but BANKS has had so much momentum from last summer.
