I have family in chicago (south loop) so I know a bit about it seeing as I go there every four months.
And just seeing the successful turnaround of NYC from the dangerous 80s and 90s to now should be incentive enough
Not every city is the same. Chicago has created it's own mess and many people think gentrification will be the quick solution. It won't. You can't clean up a big spill with one napkin.
I wish NYC could handle it, but it's not possible at all.
It would have been possible if the West Side Stadium would have been approved but the alternative to that would be some new messy LIRR/Metro North/subway/bus routes that would take you to Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, parts of NJ () and even Long Island.
Who knows. I was too young to fully experience it

I supposed, but the city has thrown so many things at the problem already minus gentrifying and spreading some crime out to suburbs, I don't see any feasible solution

This kind of stories always pop up in between games. I mean what city is ever ready for a such a huge event, problems will arise that will cause delays (some unforeseen while others not), constructions will still be happening a week or even during the Olympics, etc.
Though 7 years (which includes possibly 2-3 years of urban and architectural planning) is too short. It takes 2 years for the IOC to pick a city, they should shorten it to 1 year or even 1 1/2 year.

I think they will get it together. Anyways they should book Khia for the Closing Ceremony and sing My Neck, My Back with the choir. It would SLAY!
