I like the Chicken Fried and Happy comparison. Seems about right
1. When did I say there was anything wrong with traditional country? I just told you I listen to old country music. There is something wrong when you stereotype country music and your entire career revolves around the old joke that if you a reverse a country music song you'll get your dog back, your wife back, your hometown back, etc. That's why I'm so offended by something like "Give Me Back My Hometown." On a side note, since when are Lee Brice, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, etc. NOT pop-driven? Not a single one of them sound like traditional country music at all. Just because they stereotype country music and don't allude to T-pain does not mean that they aren't pop-driven. Do we even need to go over how "5-1-5-0," "Creepin'," Homeboy," etc. are not traditional country?
2. Did you really just say that there's a shortage of country songs complaining about hometowns changing? Are you also missing country music about how your girlfriend cheated on you and took your favorite dog? A handful of songs missing your hometown: Justin Moore's "Smalltown USA," Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles on "Who Says You Can't Go Home," Blake Shelton's "Home," Dierks Bentley's "Home," David Nail's "Turning Home," Montgomery Gentry's "My Town," Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me," Uncle Kracker's "My Hometown," etc. If I had more space, I'd throw in some more. You're acting like "Give Me Back My Hometown" is the Dixie Chicks' "Silent House" and actually brings something new to the over-explored trope
|
I said that there's nothing wrong with people moving back to traditional sounding country and that yes there is indeed a shortage of it on the radio when Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan are played all the time.
And if you're so offended by "Give Me Back My Hometown" then maybe you should listen to pre-school music seeing mature songs seem to get you rallied up like that.

It's a nice break from the Carrie vs. Taylor Swift stan wars. Now it's Luke Bryan stans vs. the Inferiors.
People were very excited by them and someone told me they'd be the next Dixie Chicks and I should check them out. The Dixie Chicks had gorgeous group melodies and revolutionized country music and I think he was trying to associate that with Lady Antebellum.

Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line can each only be played once an hour on radio so I have a hard time believing that that's all you're hearing on radio, especially when "Give Me Back My Hometown" is #4 on radio play and actually above both songs
These do not sound like my idea of traditional country songs at all. At all. What is your idea of a traditional country song and would you mind posting an example of what you think a traditional country song sounds like? I generally think of Second and Third Generation as traditional country.
"Give Me Back My Hometown" is not an adult-oriented song It's an overused trope done poorly to play to the lowest common denominator. It's more trite and generic than Luke could ever be. It's like a pop song singing about having sex in a club or a rap song singing about Crystal and hoes. It's a stereotype. There's literally no new ground at all covered in it, so I don't see why we're arguing about its lyrical content making up for its sonic shortcomings. The fact that it's in a slower time signature than most of Luke Bryan's songs does not make it "more adult."

Also, Bie is our friend. Love your Bie.
Sis, you sound like my annoying ass grandpa who's still upset about Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson being labeled country. Build a bridge and get over it because you're decades late. Country music has always been pop music ten years late and no amount of crying over how much you miss the pop music of the 1990s country music of the 2000s decade will change that
Snatch them.

No, he's just pushing country forward. They were mad when Willie Nelson did it, they were mad when Taylor Swift did it, they were mad when Dolly Parton did it, they were mad when Johnny Cash did it, they were mad when Tim McGraw did it, they were mad when Carrie Underwood did it, they were mad when Garth Brooks did it, they were mad when the Dixie Chicks did it, they were mad when Reba Mcentire did it, they were mad when the Delmore Brothers did it and now they're mad that Luke Bryan is doing it. I don't see why this is surprising at this point when country music has never been. EVER.
I'm just disappointed in the Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood stans on this site for being such hypocrites and trying to play the role of typical country music purists.

1. Yeah, and they are still mad at those artist (minus Carrie, Garth, Tim.) And they can stay mad a Reba because she is such a mean person. The Taylor Swift stans are being hypocrites. (Even though, technically I became a swifty after Red.) Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Luke's music. However, for mainstream country fans, he is pushing too hard and may regress in sales unless he reals in for the next album. On the other hand, Taylor walks that fine line between country and pop.
Jesus take the will gave Carrie the ability to do whatever the hell she wants in the eyes of country though.
2. I know, it is so classic Luke. He has done other things like this before. Look at the back right guy's face.
3. (Not Directed at you) To the people stating Hunter is Gay, there are only three gay (one out, two closeted) people in country, and Hunter is not one of them.
4. I voted hunter because, in my opinion, FTFBO, LMM, and LMU >>>>> all of Luke's catalog. Personally, I feel like Wanted and IWC are such an overrated songs.

1. I think Luke needs to try and get a footing on pop radio like Taylor did. That way, he'd always have something to fall back on like Taylor did when she went too far pop with IKYWT and WANEGBT and country abandoned her.
I LOVE "Jesus Take the Wheel" Such a classic. Carrie deserves all the respect she gets.
2. I need to see other instances of this The girl on the back left looks soooo distraught.
3. I called him gay, too, but was joking mostly Who is gay in country music? Any major stars or are we talking about that one kid who did "All American Boy" or something like that.
4. I may not agree with your opinion, but I can't really argue it. I will bump this when Luke smashes with another album and Hunter's sales go...Invisible

Luke needs to get out. His songs all sound the same and are about the same few topics (Beer/Girls/Partying) whereas Hunter has a little deviation.
Anyways, country music doesn't need anyone new to reign supreme seeing as Carrie Underwood is coming back soon.

for Carrie overstepping her ARTPOP era.
When we include TEAs, Luke's career has done a couple hundred thousand copies more than Some Hearts

At the time of this thread's posting, Luke was at 6,054,000 albums sold and Hunter Hayes was at 1,114,000 albums sold. Hunter's total single sales were at 6,882,000 digital singles sold and Luke Bryan is at 17,406,000 digital singles sold.
But be prepared for Eternium's bump in a year I will make sure to send you all notifications if they have the new ATRL up.

I'm going to compare how they changed since the thread was created and single-handedly (with the help of the ever-sexy Zune) clock all of you once it turns out Luke truly was the future of country from when this thread was created
