Honestly I think it's a little too early to say that Madonna or Mariah has won or will "win" or sell more in the US or overseas. Mariah's last album sold 10 million copies worldwide, and Madonna's didn't come close to that. Mariah has a lot of potential singles that could do well overseas, and I don't think it's an obvious thing to count her out to sell less than Madonna worldwide.

*sigh* I love ya, Nick, but you're just proving everyone else disagreeing more correct. Madonna sold 8m worldwide with COAD I think, with 1.6 million coming from the US, the other 7.3m in the rest of the world, while most of Mariah's worldwide sales came from the US.

But really, MOVE ON. They both are influential, but Madonna obviously has more appeal and changes than Mariah.

I dont get it ... so what if most of Mariah's sales came from the US? If Mariah's last cd sold more than Madonna's worldwide, theres no justifying it. It just means more people bought Mariah over Madonna.

I'm shocked her predictions went down .... i know you said before that 4 Minutes was alot more successful than Gimme More but obviously it failed to hype up her cd if her sales are that low. Britney got the same amount of people to go buy her cd when Gimme More wasnt as big on radio or whatever you judge it on

Um, I think you and Nick didn't get what Rico said.

- Mariah's Emancipation has sold 9 million copies worldwide, 6m of them were sold in the U.S.and only 3m were sold WORLDWIDE.

- Madonna's Confessions has sold 8 copies worldwide, 6.3m of them were sold WORLDWIDE.

It does make a HUGE difference. The numbers are not even close when you divide them. Mariah's total sales are coming mainly from the U.S. while Madonna's are coming from outside the U.S. AKA more countries on the map.

The whole argument is pointless but if we are here to prove who is more successful on the global scale, the answer is obvious and the numbers speak.

I did get what he said but i still dont see the difference if Madonna sold more outside of the america because Mariah still sold more overall so who cares if most of it is from the US. She obviously has more appeal if more people went out & got her record over Madonna's.

If you're talking about outside of the US then Madonna is the bigger star but if you're talking about the entire world combined then its Mariah cuz she sold more worldwide. Worldwide is every single country in the world right? Including the US?
