Whitney, Mariah, Celine? Which could do Beyonce justice?
At their vocal peaks, which of these vocalists could pull off Beyonce's discography the best?
Some unique vocal abilities that are essential:
-Staccato rap singing(like in Partition)
-Operatic- vocals(background vocals in ***Flawless)
-Funky/Soul belts and stylings(like in Suga Mama)
-Intense, clean, and rapid vibratos(like in Dangerously in Love)
-Sexy vocals(like in Speechless or Partition)
-Melismas!!!(in a lot of DC stuff)
-Dynamics!!(like in Speechless)
-other Beyonce vocal stuff
Mariah's influence has been the most apparent out of the three in Beyonce's work, particularly the melisma/vocal acrobatics which IIRC she stated were inspired in part by Vision of JESUS. "Emotion" by DC, "Love on Top" and others could easily be Mariah songs. The only similarity between Beyonce and Whitney would be their approach to head voice (a fuller, more operatic sound with heavier vibrato than the others), but I can't think of any major studio songs of Bey's that utilizes this much, outside of maybe Halo. I don't see anything Celine would bring to the table that MC or WH wouldn't already cover better.
