Exactly. The fetus does not have a right to life because it has no way to exercise that right independently. it is entirely dependent on the mother so it's rights are always secondary.

Potential is just that. Potential. It won't be able to sustain any life unless it reaches that potential. So the assertion that conception starts at life is incorrect, because an embryo/fetus would not sustain its own life outside of the uterus.

What if a dad decides he doesn't want the baby, but the woman does? What if he's willing to pay for the abortion and take care of it all financially but she wants to proceed with the pregnancy? Should he be responsible for the child, or does he have absolutely no say on the manner?

Abortion is too complex an issue to make as black and white as some people seem to want to make it.

When can a fetus tell what you're doing to it? When is its brain active? When does its heart start beating? What really constitutes life?

And even disregarding that, shouldn't a woman have the opportunity to control her own body as she sees fit? At what point does abortion simply equate to birth control, and at what point does it take on its own different meaning?

There's too many things here to make it a black and white decision. I fully support the rights of the mother to choose when and if she aborts a child - but could I really decide to go through with it if I were a woman and I were in that position? That's an entirely different issue.

Don't make the mistake of blurring the two issues - what you would do, and what all people should have the OPTION to do. They're very different.

Exactly. Of course, foster care is always an option, but there are already millions of kids without proper homes and families. Millions of kids that have yet to be adopted. If I put my newborn baby in foster care, what kind of life would that entail?

I'm not saying he should tell her what to do and she should just obey...but I think he should have some input. It's not all or nothing here. Most of the time, unwanted pregnancies happen to people who are either too young, too stupid, or a combo of both. That baby will need support/money and a (in the best scenario) second parent if the woman decides to keep it, so some teamwork from the onset should be a basic foundation/requirement.

Financially. That baby is in the mother's womb for 9 months, but he/she will be a part of both of their lives forever. Child support or child rearing (for men who decide to be responsible for their actions). He shouldn't be able to have the final say, but he should have input.

Or people would have to get abortions in unsafe, dangerous conditions. Abortion being legal is just generally better.

In my opinion, abortion is only okay up to a certain level of development. Once the baby develops a heart beat, neves, and can feel, that's where I draw the line. At any point before that, however, abortion is perfectly fine if that's what the woman feels is right.
