You clearly don't know how the chart works.
Say Something is doing amazing. It won't even peak until February. Right now it's only seeing a roadblock because it's competing with songs that have been out much longer. For instance Counting Stars has been out 28 weeks compared to Say Something's 8 weeks. You do the math.
This time next month Counting Stars, Royals, The Monster, Timber, etc. will all be falling while SS will be gaining at a rapid pace. SS is one of those monumental songs that will chart for a year to come the same way "Need You Now," "Moves Like Jagger" and even "Teenage Dream" did. It's going to be massive.
Mind you, SS will be 2x platinum next week in just 9 weeks. If that's not an indication of how massive this song will be, then I don't know what is. It's only 500k away from Timber in sales and that's a #1 record with double the airplay. Again, you do the math.

Just have faith. The airplay IS amazing. I agree that it could be more amazing, but Pop radio, the format that provides the largest AI hasn't fully picked it up yet. It's not top 15, it's not on Power Rotation on any major stations. Just give it time.
'Say Something' is going #1 in May after a performance at the Billboards, a performance at the 'Voice' finale and an iTunes discount all in the same week
|
I don't know if this is the same situation as Counting Stars though. Say Something was kind of an instant hit after The Voice performance. It wasn't like Counting Stars which really was doing almost nothing for months.
I agree that the song will have longevity and can see it hanging around the Hot 100 Top 10 for a long time. The song really has not been that exposed yet to major markets. I've heard the song like once on the radio and I'm in a major market lol. But that #1 still is where I'm not so sure
Airplay will eventually get to a nice amount, but it really needs one of those really massive weeks in sales and as time goes by, it really will be harder for that to happen. And it doesn't seem to be very reactive on Youtube either. Thank God it's a Spotify/On-Demand hit at least unlike Feel This Moment which was neither lol

of course things could be *more* amazing for the song, but it could be a LOT worse too lol. Might not reach #1 but for an unknown band collabing with xtina (who has had her share of chart misfortunes in recent years) this level of success is amazing. And I'll take whatever we get.
Anyway, moving on. (New hit gif I'm implementing)

|
But we weren't talking about whether it could be worse or how it's great for an unknown band with Christina. The specific issue we were discussing is whether it will go to #1 or NOT. And that's where we're unsure. I mean what has already happened with this song is nice, but it's so close and realistic to getting that #1 that it would be a bit of a bummer if it didn't get it.

Royals, Counting Stars, and The Monster won't be threats I agree. And I don't think Timber will be either as time goes by. But what about Dark Horse? That's the one that's going to probably peak at the same time as Say Something.

Dark Horse is an inevitable smash but so will a lot of songs that have yet to be released. The competition is always there, but SS has the advantage. It's already huge and hasn't even been in heavy rotation, as you said. It's rise has been very slow and gradual. Therefore it won't peak until later, unlike Dark Horse which will probably be #1 in a few weeks, but that song will most likely rise and fall before SS peaks.
But if Christina & AGBW perform SS at the Grammys, I can guarantee a #1.

That was a possibility I had thought about - Dark Horse going to #1 first and then falling, but I'm not sure.
I don't know if they'll perform at the Grammys. They're usually stricter about wanting nominated performers or performers for tributes. They let Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake perform last year without being nominated, but I think that's a bit different if AGBW is the main artist and not established.
What if Katy Perry performs Dark Horse at The Grammys though She doesn't seem to like that song though, so hopefully she just does Roar or Unconditionally

Although Say Something is AGBW's song, Christina went from feature to front billing so it's technically just as much her song as it is theirs, which bodes well for a performance since she is a Grammy darling. Plus the Grammys are notorious for having artists collaborate together and SS would be a no brainer. Rihanna performed Stay with Mikky Ecko last year, who was unknown artist, and that song ended up being one of the biggest songs of the year and is nominated this year.

'SS' will be fine. 'Dark Horse' will get to #1 before 'SS' does though and it will smash hard, but I think 'SS' will peak later than we all think. It hasn't even started yet. I agree that the strong initial sales may be an obstacle in the future, because many people already bought it before radio jumped on the bandwagon, but its good initial sales triggered radio to give it a chance. It would have flopped otherwise.
The fact that it's still #3 on iTunes with no current promo is an incredible sign. And just remember that radio is only now starting to support the song. It's not even Top 5 in HAC, its main format yet. AC is still testing it (and we ALL know that if 'JAF' could reach #22 on that chart, 'SS' can be a Top 5 hit) and it JUST entered the top 5 on Pop. Just don't worry and give it time.

I like it aside from the fact that it is stretched to fit the avatar shape.
