Yes touring is a bigger market TODAY than it was in yesteryear's you can't even deny that. The reason tours weren't as big back in the day was due to people making most of the money from album sales since that was when they were selling like hotcakes. The fact that Janet in 1989 grossed 89 million which for that time was the highest debut tour as well as being the little sister. Is a notable achievement and her tour's after that have grossed very high for that time as well, if we adjusted it for inflation the stats would be higher easily. And you have to take into account around the AFY tour sickness & 9/11 attacks led to her cancelling many dates that could have been performed and the possibility of extending the tour in general. And after the nipple slip we saw a true version of being blacklisted.

If touring was such a bigger market today, why aren't big artist the like Katy Perry, Mariah, Jlo, Alicia Keys and Xtina etc able to gross over $100 mil in this easy touring market? Hell, Rih just only had her first $100 mil tour in a 8yr career. The reality is, there are only certain few artist that have hugely successful $100 mil grossing tours. Even some of the big artist I mentioned above aren't feeling the wave of this so called bigger touring market. Janet, at this point in her career should've been beyond being blacklisted, especially from touring. She has the Jackson name and success to at least be able to pull off a hugely successful tour.

This is so stupid you can't diminish the fact that Janet and her contributions of choreography to the music video's especially for the female artist's. If it weren't for Janet and her Escapade:
|
What are you talking about? I didn't diminish Janet's contributions of choreography to music. When I think of Janet, I don't think Beyoncé. Bey is a VOCALIST and dancer, she is more comparable to Tina and her style of dancing and Mariah as far as vocals.
Quote:
That Beyonce HERSELF AS A CHILD LEARNED among other routine's she wouldn't be the dancer she is today. And the same goes for the entire TRL generation from JLO to Xtina to Britney to NSYNC to Usher etc..... And has been praised from a variety of performers that if you look back at I listed.
|
Sure Beyoncé has mentioned she was influenced by Janet, just as she has mentioned she was influenced by Whitney, Mariah, Madonna etc Every new generation of artist mentions the previous as an influence. Again, I don't see Janet's tomboy dancing and lack of vocals skills in Beyoncé. I see it in Britney and Jlo.

And this confirm's you know nothing about music prior to the new millenium, it's called Tina Turner one of the biggest touring act's of all time. The same woman who your favorite artist's borrow's heavily from when she performs. There is a reason bey call's her the Queen
|
Again wtf are you talking about, I already mentioned Tina as having the most impact on Bey. When I mentioned what other female artist is able to sing very well and dance very well, I'm speaking of this generation. As great as a vocalist as Tina was, still she isn't listed or compared to greater vocalist like Mariah and Xtina the way Bey is. Tina's voice is more rock and a very different category from Bey's voice.
That's why she was asked to perform at the Super Bowl at 21,
she was asked twice, while these other girls have never been asked and may never be asked. That speaks volumes, considering how some stans can only brag about quick jingle sells.
But that isn't a fair comparison she was asked twice because she was apart of a group and another time came years later as a solo artist. If Beyonce was SOLO since day one I highly doubt she would be asked twice especially above the likes of Prince, MJ and other artist's.
|
You sound like the other fanbases using the excuse that Bey was only asked twice to perform at the SB because of DC.

Then why wasn't JT asked twice or Diana Ross? They asked Bey on the strength of her being a great solo artist and great performer.
You also have to take into consideration that Bey is mainly an r&b/pop artist
Quote:
And so was Janet and she is one of the artist's who paved the way for Beyonce to record her female empowerment contemporary r&b flavored songs and albums. As well as give Bey the ability to cross over
Yup and when we look back at the artist's who truly had a profound impact on music/performances Janet will ALWAYS be mentioned before Beyonce.
P.S.: With that said I do know and acknowledge Bey's impact but it's asinine to even believe that Beyonce who is still building her legacy, has a bigger legacy than Janet
|
Janet's voice and music is more pop than r&b, compared to Bey's voice and music. Beyoncé has a gospel church type voice, that usually doesn't translate or cross over into the pop world. That's why she stands out more so as a cross over artist than Janet. Bet honest, when you think of the Janet, the first thing you think of is pop and a lack of vocal skills, which is why she is always compared to Madonna and not Whitney, Aretha or Toni Braxton.
It is your opinion about when we look back Janet will be mentioned before Bey as far as performance. I completely disagree, one because we can't predict the future, two because Bey's performances are better given she can SANG and dance extremely well. And also several members of this board who aren't even Bey fans have mentioned they had no idea who Janet was prior to becoming a member of this site, that speaks volumes considering she is a Jackson and considering how successful she was.
