If you don't inspire people you will bore them. They will get tired of you. This is why Kanye West does so well. He is a really inspiring artist. People love to see what he'll wear, what he'll say. He's exciting. You have to give people what they want. Something to admire.

I think that some artist fall under this category but some artist are not there to give people what they want. Sometimes you have to be ahead of the curve and bridge the gap between the artists' vision and what the audience will embrace but sometimes you don't have to marry the two.
Good points, though. I mean, you can't bore or offend/turn off people and expect a career. People throw Madonna around as if she didn't have the smarts, charm and charisma to offend a certain group yet have a fanbase embrace her. I guess it's a lot harder for some...

I think it does ruin a singer's career.
That's why Britney, Katy, Gaga, Kelly and Taylor will always remain successful and that's because they have amazing personalities.
Katy is one of the most humble human beings ever and the general public sees that.
Gaga, she might seem a little crazy but bitch cares about her fans and she has talent and yeah she doesn't think too might of herself just speaks her mind and I think people have learn to deal with it.
Britney might be a little robotic at times but she's still the best thing to ever happen to pop music since Madonna and she's still a beautiful sweet and humble girl.

This.
What's funny is that no matter what the debate is back and forth, it's still true that a bad personality can ruin a career...no matter how many excuses the proof is in the pudding.
