If you read the lyrics as a woman telling a gay man that she can't love them back the way they need, it all makes a ton of sense. You people who want her to have every video be a literal interpretation of the lyrics really don't understand her aesthetic. (A man with a nametag that says Alejandro constantly yelling out "Gaga!" and her turning away? Must she stand there with both hands in her pockets?)

Did you watch all of the Born This Way video? A race within the race of humanity that bears no prejudice, makes a ton of sense with the song. Just because she isn't literally sitting at the boudoir with her mother, doesn't mean the video has nothing to do with the song.

I agree, it may have somehow worked for Telephone but it definitely didn't work for Alejandro imo.

Alejandro had nothing to do with "gay love" or gay individuals in general. That video could have been saved for a song that related to it. Gaga did too much with that I'm sorry.

But the way she paired the song and video, gives the song a new meaning, just like it did for Telephone. Seriously, read the lyrics and think of Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto as gay men who want her to be one of them, and remember the scenes in the video with her as an androgynous person in traditionally male sex positions.

It all has to do with the interpretation of the lyrics. Some people listen to the words and take it literally and thats that. Others look deep into the song and understand the metaphors and messages she is trying to get across.

Although, Gaga explained many times that the song is about her saying goodbye to all of her past boyfriends and lovers BUT i think you're spot on with the underlying meaning. That explains the music video and live performances.
