AOTY Winners of the Past 5 Years

2016 - Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly (96) -- Lost to Taylor Swift - 1989 (76)
2015 - Beyonce - BEYONCE (85) -- Lost to Beck - Morning Phase (81)
2014 - Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid M.A.A.D City (91) -- Lost to Daft Punk - Random Access Memorie s(87)
2013 - Frank Ocean - Channel Orange (92) -- Lost to Mumford & Sons - Babel (63)
2012 - Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (94) Wasn't Even Nominated -- Lost to Adele- 21 (76)

For the past 5 years, African Americans have been making the best albums - but they have ALL lost to their white peers for various reasons or shall I say - various excuses.

The only trend I see is that all of the winners are white artists. It is also no coincidence that this trend simultaneously pairs with the Oscars who have only nominated white actors for the past two years - stating that for the past 2 years, the TOP 40 actors in Hollywood were only white.

So do you agree? Do the Grammy's = White Privilege?

There are plenty of talented people who are never nominated, or never win. Some are black, some are white, some are neither. It doesn't strictly have to do with race, but I feel like their committee is mostly white male which has a lot to do with this.

Random Access Memory and Morning Phase were rightful winners, though.

You specifically went through and chose only black artists who were also nominated, when there were probably many white people who also had higher MC scores than the winners.

Also, a lot of these critics who write reviews that contribute to these Metacritic scores that you are using as undeniable, objective fact are written by white people, so that's kind of an contradictory, ironic mess if that's the only think you're going to use.

Overall (even in ROTY/SOTY) they're not, since some of the most awarded artists are PoC.
