Why is this surprising? Those searches are being made everywhere, but India's population is huge. Every type of **** search is highest in India.

People go out with other people. Even if you're a male, it's not normal to go outside alone and definitely not in poor areas (which is most places). As for "acceptance" of those things, I'm not sure if that's the right word unless you mean no one does anything about it.
