Does a foreign last name affect your chances at a Job?
Ive heard this many times on tv that having a "ghetto" or "foreign" "black" last name will highly diminish your chances at getting the job even though your resume shows your qualified. I've heard stories from friends that job interviewers immediately throw away interviews in the trash if they see these types of names as their is a stigma attached with non common last names.
So do you guys think a last name as "Smith" have a better advantage than a last name as rodriguez" or even first name like Daniel having a better shot at landing a good job than jose.
I have a friend who was names Jose but he changed his name to Joe because of this.
Have you guys seen that documentary where that guy changed his name or a few letters from his name and he got more calls and interviews when he used the "white" looking/sounding name.
I can't remember exactly what it was called, but he was latino
Yes. there are a lot of things that can affect it. Having a foreign first, middle, or last name can affect it. Despite being hispanic, I have an example whitewashed name so i didnt face that issue when I applied for a job. BUT because it said i was hispanic on my application, they requested I show them a birth certificate to verify I was a citizen
It's not just the US and it's definitely not just Hispanic names. Do you really think it's different in the UK, Australia, etc. for a person without an Anglo name?

I don't know I've only seen it in the US, but I really doubt there's a country as xenophobic, racist and intolerant as the US, I mean every country has their groups of intolerant, but nothing will top this horrible country.

Oh puhlease, let's not get overdramatic here. Let me tell you something, Asian countries are extremely racist. Even more so than America. People will literally say racist **** out in the open, anyone not asian, ESPECIALLY a black person would get so hated on by a lot of people in certain asian countries.
Eastern Europeans are also known for being plenty racist too.
There are literal wars and battles going on based on different ethnic groups. There are tons of worse places to live than America.
Yes, and it isn't only in America. There have been similar studies conducted in major Canadian cities and it works the same way with ethnically Asian first and last names. [1]
