Argument for Americans learning Spanish

• Most of the world, especially Europe, speaks in multiple languages besides their native one

Argument for Hispanics/Spaniards learning English

• Those who come to the USA should learn the main language of the country and respect American culture. Some come into the country, and they don't really care about its culture.

The incoming racist mess

Anyway the working language of the US is English so everyone who wants to incorporate fully into American society will have to learn it. Nevertheless in some immigrant communities there really isn't any need to....look at Miami people can survive there without being totally proficient in English. Second generation Hispanics speak mostly English and immigration is slowing down so Americans shouldn't be scared of a language shift, English is too powerful anyway.

Spanish is actually quite easy to learn from personal experience. It just takes time to be really fluent.

This might sound terrible but if you're coming to a country you need to learn their language. It'd be like me going to Japan and expecting everyone there to conform for me and learn English just to make my life easier.

This is gonna get really racist by white people. But I feel like both languages should be learned. Also the US has no official language.

The US doesn't have an official language, This isn't YOUR language. It is however, the working language in the states. If you plan to be here, you really should know some English.

American's should also be forced to learn a second language. We're so dumb compared to....basically every other country when it comes to language.

Well I am American as well and since I am an educated American I know that America has no official language.

You can't compare the US to Europe.

You have to speak another language because of the location. In the US if you travel across the country all you'll encounter is English. If you go up north more English and some French. If you travel South it's Spanish.

It's like the UK they don't really speak a second language besides people in Wales. They happen to be an island and they speak the primary language in the world.

However if I'm traveling to another country I need to speak the language of the majority. Wouldn't it be mess if I go to Mexico and expect everyone to speak English. Or go to America and expect everyone to speak Spanish.

Everyone should learn English, seeing as though its the most universally spoken language on earth. It's rare that anyone would ever use Spanish outside of some Latin American countries.

But in most countries English is a dominant language. I went to Taipei and Singapore and loads of people spoke English there.

Now not to get off track but Spanish is spoken in ALL of Latin America even Brazil as a minority language, also in Spain, Equatorial Guinea, as a legacy language in the Philippines and is an official UN language. And the second most spoken language in the US.....it is very useful.
