84% Of Vegetarians Become Meat Eaters Again, Study Finds
Quote:
Know any vegetarians? If so, you won’t for long.
According to a new study from the Humane Research Council (HRC), those who identify with the strict, no-meat diet usually don’t have the stomach to stay at it.
In fact, the HRC study finds that a staggering 84 percent of people who at one point identify as vegetarians find themselves “falling off the wagon,” so to speak, and eating meat once again.
Worse yet, few of them are able to make it past a few months, notes Tech Times, adding that “half of them within a year’s time and more than a third within three months” revert to their carnivorous habits.
Why so much failure? For Green it has to do with “a lack of social support from partners or family, and a dislike for being seen as ‘different’ by their friends and social peers based on their dietary preferences.”

I'd like to see numbers for people who stayed vegetarians after six months, a year and five years. I wouldn't really call three months no meat a vegetarian, and I know people who go a week without meat and reflect on being "vegetarians" (and even some who are less than a few days.)

They probably just went back to those annoying ''chicken only'' vegetarians

I'm not a fan of meat at all (I don't like the taste, not even chicken) but I don't go vegetarian because of the nutrients. I once stopped eating meat but after a few months my hair started falling out and my skin got weak and I RAN to the nearest KFC. So appearently peas+nuts+tofu aren't enough for me as a meat replacement:/

Those are clear symptoms of protein deficit. Well, at least you knew how to fix it

I only eat fish (and I feel guilty about it), but I have to.

Me and my Ex Girlfriend tried being Veg, as more of an experiment. I eventually caved and walked to Maccas at 2am and ordered 3 cheeseburgers. On the way home, I was literally Homer Simpson.
She lasted 3 months after having almost no energy at all. I feel like you can't just sudden;y change your diet that quick, you'd have to become one over a few months at least.

Yes, you can. I went from eating meat, milk + eggs ever day to vegan over night and i was fine.
What you need to do is sit down and learn about nutrition and how you can meet the needs your body has. You can't go in blind.

I applaud people that can do it, but I could never. I love meat too much.

Everyone needs their daily intake of big, fat, juicy sausage so I'm not surprised.

I don't understand why someone would want to be a vegetarian.

I don't get why vegetarianism is not more celebrated. They cut down on global emissions of CO2 by a huge amount, they lower animal cruelty, etc. I've always wanted to do it but I just love meat too much

Henny, I'm Conservative on most issues, too, but you really make us look like douchebags with posts like this. Animals die when meat is produced

None of those people are actually vegetarians. If you only go a few months without eating meat, you're not a vegetarian; you're just on one of your newest diet trends. You'll probably be gluten-free at some point too!
Literally hate when people tell me "I'm a vegetarian too!!!" and it turns out they've actually eaten meat a few months ago, or worst of all, eat chicken and/or fish Dumbasses.

I feel like most people know next to nothing about nutrition, which is necessary if you're making large changes in your diet.

I tried to become vegetarian on the beginning of senior year. On the first week, I wasn't being able to concentrate properly to study, and at first I thought it was because I was trying a really strict schedule. That's when I realize it could be the protein deficit, so I began eating meat again, and everything came back to normal. I wanna try to be a vegetarian once again, but this time with the help of a nutritionist.

He doesn't care, as he thinks their lives are worth less than those of humans, thus giving us this apparent "right" to take their lives as we please. I've explained to him numerous times the legitimate reasons why someone would stop eating meat, and if he still doesn't get it, well...what're you gonna do?
Not to be rude, but those saying they've tried it and failed aren't doing it right and shouldn't have just given it up like that. The vast majority of people **** up when it comes to new things, especially fundamental changes in diet, thought processes, and the like. It's okay to mess up here and there - just treat them as learning experiences and keep moving. It's completely possible to live a healthy life with no meat, and even more so with no animal products whatsoever. I was vegetarian for a year before going vegan, which I've now been for more than three and a half years. And yet I'm way healthier and happier than I was before. It's completely possible. Will it be heard? Perhaps - but most new things in life are.
