Aww so sad, he was cute. I met someone from online in person when i was in 16 and he picked me up in his car and we drove to his apartment. We were alone but thankfully nothing happened to me.

This is tragic. While I hate to point fingers, I can't help but feel cases like this would decrease if homosexuality were more socially acceptable. Every time someone uses a slur like *** or goes after gay people, he or she is making the topic a little harder to broach for closeted kids. Having nowhere to turn for support in the real world, they turn to online sites (more typically ones like Grindr today). It all just goes from there. A damn shame.

His parents remind me of Leelah Alcorn's. They keep talking about the killer grooming their son for gay sex and they never once take responsibility for not talking to their own son about his sexuality.

If I ever have kids, be them trans/gay/etc., I can guarantee you I won't repress them so they have to seek love online

Just look how clueless his parents are. The dad talks about him not wanting to go to church and still doesn't get it. He even claims the guy was "grooming" his son for gay sex.

If his parents had pulled their heads out of their own asses and actually paid attention to their kid (even enough to just realize he was gay), they could've saved him. The fact that they're pinning this all on police (granted they are partially responsible) is just disturbing and delusional.

Scary to think anyone could cross paths with someone like that online and you'd never know. RIP, poor kid.

I could have misread (I skimmed fairly quickly) but was there confirmation that the victim was gay, or simply assumption? Either way, I do agree the parents should have been more involved. But in this age, it's very easy for a teenager to hide his activities from his parents if he wants to (Hell, just look at half the closeted kids on this site ). I can't find it in my heart to blame the parents that lost their child.
