Most police officers in America carry semi-automatic handguns, and in the patrol cars most have AR-15s or shotguns.

However in the UK police officers do not have guns. They are trained to run away if a suspect has a firearm. Only 5% are authorized to use firearms and most don't carry them. If the police are in danger, they can radio for a "Firearms Unit" to come and help.

A 2006 survey of 47,000 UK police found 82% did NOT want to be armed, despite the fact many unarmed police have been shot dead (for example).



If UK police don't need firearms neither do police in the States. If American police didn't have guns, they would act less confrontational, and Mike Brown would still be alive today.

Terrorists fall into a different category of violence sis. Out of all the citys in the US they mainly attack NYC. You can't just call firearms team in a city packed most of the time.

The SWATT team doesn't come in like 25 seconds sis

They have bullet-proof vests, pepper spray and tasers.

Don't talk nonsense, guns aren't just for hiding in your waistband, think of rural areas: hunting, pest control, various sport shooting including Olympic-style rifle, pistol and shotgun competition. It's the police who don't need them, like I said: they can just radio for a firearms team.

I'm sorry but what is a Glock going to do against men with AK-47s, dirty car bomb or a hijacked airliner? Police aren't going to be like John McClane. Of course they are going to call for backup and get a SWAT team out there. Don't use the excuse "but terrorists" to push for such authoritarian policies.

Well in that case If people can have them, then police sure as hell need them Besides, I don't think people need them? Why hunt? People get a thrill out of killing and hanging an animal in their living area? A bit morbid to me. Guns cause nothing but death, trouble, or debate. /

It's stuff like this though that makes me embarrassed to be American. The stereotypical redneck, guns for all, conservative mentality here is just too much. I'm most likely going to move out of the country after college because I'm so over how ridiculous it's getting here. People here need to realize that the old or original way isn't always the best way.
