Most Successful Acts Of 2008
Who do you think have been the most successful WORLDWIDE acts(ar**** or groups) of 2008?
heres who i think...
1.Rihanna - 3 WW #1's this year
>
2.Leona Lewis - BL was amazingly huge and she got to perform at the Olympics
3.Coldplay - albums has already sold over 5 million
>
>
4.Madonna - 4M was a huge WW hit & the tour has been huge
5.Duffy - despite flopping in the US Mercy was a huge hit everywhere else & the album has been huge in Europe
6.Lil Wayne - no international success but for how huge LP & TCIII where in the US he deserves it.
>
>
7.Katy Perry - IKAG = huge WW smash and HNC can be even bigger but the albums is a flop
>
8.One Republic - Aplogize HUGE WW smash & S&S was also a hit
9.Flo Rida
10.Estelle - American Boy / Will.I.AM he was a flop in 2007 but he completely turned it around in 2008/Adele

Madonna is definitely lower in my opinion. Especially when you consider she's been in the business for so long, her album underperformed (and Give it To Me) contrary to previously unheard of artists such as Flo Rida, Duffy, Leona and Estelle.
One Republic were a one hit wonder, and since Apologize was released in 2007, i hardly consider them to be a hit.
As for the Top 3.. Rhianna may have hit the top spot 2 times (not three), but neither Disturbia (apart from ATRL of course nor Take a Bow can be defined as memorable. Don't Stop the Music remains her only stand-out song this year.
Leona, on the other hand, is 2008's big winner, with Coldplay close behind...The only reason why I am placing Leona ahead of Coldplay is that whereas Coldplay have already generated a huge fanbase after quite a lot of albums, Leena is still fresh and brand new.

I wouldn't put Lil Wayne that high if he was only successful here.

I didn't know someone could be a one hit wonder with to top 20 hits on their first album. And hasn't even released their sophmore yet.

I was referring to this year, and the singles they released from "Dreaming Out Loud". I'm sure they will have more hits in the future, but this year they were a one-hit wonder.

Idk about worldwide, but for the US, I'd say Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Rihanna, Katy Perry, T-Pain, and The Jonas Brothers .

For a new artist definitely Leona
'BL' has been the biggest seller WW and in the US this year, it's been #1 all over Europe as well! Her album has sold over 1 million in the US as well and 'BIT' is top twenty and still rising in the US and top ten in alot of Europe!
Duffy as well! A big WW hit with 'Mercy' and the album has sold loads in the UK and has even gone gold in the US with only a top thirty song!
For an artist that isn't new, it would have to be Coldplay and Rihanna for obvious reasons Rihanna has had some big hits this year and the re-release has really boosted the album sales. Coldplay also, a big #1 and a big selling album, even though I dislike CP, they have done well this year!

In my opinion...i don't think Madonna should be on that list at all sadly to say i'd put Mariah up before her because at least she gained her 18th number one off her BLAN poor single choice album...4 minutes was huge but not ever her second single made the charts and Mariah's did make it in the top 40...Like you guys have already stated, i'd put Leona first and Duffy second follow by Rihanna/Coldplay...lets face it...Rihanna is a singles artist she freakin re-released her album and it still hasn't cracked double platinum in the US so jus cuz she's had 2 number ones this year she needs not be the one on top cuz everyone's albums below (with the exception of a few) have sold tons more than she has

thing is though at first you talking about the US then you switch to WW.Mariah has had NO international success this year. not with BB,TBM or IBLYLT.on the other hand 4M spent 10 weeks @ #1 on UWC + GI2M was huge in Europe.Madonna's been huge WW this yaer just as huge compared to other years.then Duffy has been huge internationaly but not in the US.

in my eyes i love Duffy she was SOOOOOOO underated....but again like i said tru no international success for Mariah granted so i'll give you the torch on that...but Rihanna at #1 for that...come on....she ain't that successful if she has to run to covergirl to get them to pay for her videos(DISTURBIA!)

Rihanna is just about right for #1. I think that Mariah Carey might need to be up there at #10.

By the end of the year, definitely should be apart of it. Maybe not in other markets, but the success from this album he is having in the US, should put him up there. WUL #1 3 weeks, his album will smash records me thinks too, another song from the album, goes top 5 on Billboard. He's on a roll.
