I've followed it since S1 and while its still sorta good, the theatrics and soap opera histrionics are starting to irk me. Olivia + Fitz are the most unlikable couple on tv.
The Good Wife is far more polished and realistic, and House of Cards does the whole political narrative FAR better.
Its a good-to-great blend of the two, tho.
^ I also watch The Good Wife. They're kind of similar, actually. Affairs, cutthroat workplace that requires alliances & betrayals, political/jurisdiction aspects to both storylines, etc.
The Olivia/Fitz storyline is one of the defining aspects of the show, so I like that they keep going with it.
To me, the writing is what keeps it from teetering over into a cheesy soap opera. On the contrary, it becomes one of the best written TV dramas on televisions. It has its own vibe going on.

I kinda dislike how Shonda likes to make everyone a monster. The only "good" characters are Abbie (who's a huge bitch) and Harrison (she will find a way to vilify him when his arc comes along)
