(EDIT) Amy Winehouse Debuts With 50k, In Top 10
From Hits Daily Double...
The week’s biggest surprise after Musiq, though, might well be highly touted U.K. newcomer Amy Winehouse, whose Universal Republic bow, Back to Black, could do between 35-40k. You gotta love this sultry soulstress, whose album includes a modern-day anthem in “Rehab,” with its refrain, “They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, no, no, no.”
-
This is actually really good for her. She hasn't done any US promotion, and it's not like she has a hit single or anything. It seems Amy is selling based off buzz alone, and it's doing her good. Once her single starts to get more support, she'll easily keep on selling. With recent sales, 40k could mean as high as #15.
Out of the bag she's already starting off better than Corrine Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, and KT Tunstall.

Just finishing up listening to her CD for the first time, it's pretty great. She deserves the US success and all the word of mouth she's getting.

I've had this album downloaded for a few weeks now and it's safe to say that, as of now, "Back To Black" is the best of 2007 (the only downside to the US release is that it doesn't feature the hilarious "Addicted"). With Amy Winehouse, not only do you get brilliant music but also a fantastic voice and a humongous personality that shines right through. Just give her the chance and she will make capture your heart (and ears).
The Indie & British Invasion is really happening. It's so hard to believe but it really is.

Amy Winehouse is brilliant. And so is her debut album "Frank".
Glad to hear she is getting some success.

40K! LOL, you people really can look either very naive or optimistic. How cute, lol. Is she on a major label or not? I heard her voice and I was blown away. Yeah, I'll never get into her stuff @ all.

I was using sarcasm in the next to last sentence to add suspense, SMH. But really, if she has any stans on this board, they lost. She kinda sounds like a transvestite, and some of her pics are like ehh. But if you like it as a normal fan then thats you, but people are acting like she's something great. I wasn't impressed.

I think she is extremely overrated. After downloading her album and finding it to be a complete snoozefest, I dont get the hype... but saying that i only heard it once and skimmed through the tracks so it might end up growing on me. I hope Joss Stone's CD does a whole lot better.

Amy's great. Some people on this board probably don't like her because she appeals to one generation older, in their late 20's-30's (as in, the generation who can't stand people like Fergie). She has a more soulful, mature sound and the fact that she's got 40K in sales already is pretty good. VH1 has been playing her video a lot recently.

Nope. I knew someone else would say that. How do ^you classify ''mature sound?''
Anita Baker is soulful...A. Keys is soulful...K. Clarkson can be soulful when she wants to be(i.e. her debut album). When I hear the word ''soulful'' I hope A. Whinehorse isn't on anyone's shortlist, but thats how I see it.
LOL, I mispelled her name on accident, haha. SONNED! Ouch, I wasn't trying to do that, excuse me. I'm still a little bit ''out of it.''
