I applaud Food Network for setting an example out of Paula. Although I wish they would have done so with Guy (and his homophobic comments), but people would really be upset then.

She didn't "use the word back in the 60s". She referred to one of her black servers as a ****** (hence how this whole case started in the first place) and then tried to have a 'plantation style' party in which all her black servers would be dressed as slaves.
JUST like she has the right to say what she wants to say and do what she wants to do, Food Network has the right to be embarrassed and fire her. Simple as.
And it's truly a shame because black people LOVED Paula and her show.

Whether Paula's anti-Black racist remarks are forgivable is for Black people to decide.
I am tired of people telling ME whether I should be offended and whether I should forgive such an offense. That is MY decision, not another person's. It is not a white person's prerogative to decide how horrible an act of anti-Black racism is. Why? Because they aren't Black.
Food Network made the right choice. Keeping Paula would make them look bad.
