Legend, Icon.. Too loosely used??
This is inspired by the recent threads that are popping up that are saying is "so and so legendary".
Personally I think the words Legendary and Iconic are too loosely used. Are they great honors to have bestowed upon someone?? YES!! But unfortunately the title doesn't fit everyone.
I would say legendary acts are people like MJ, Beatles and Elvis. Their success and impact on the industry is unparalleled. They have changed the industry in so many ways during their time, evryone else falls short.
Icons are people like Whitney, Madonna, Prince, Janet, The Supremes, Rolling Stones(could be in the legendary group), Little Richard, Temptations, Aretha Franklin(could be in the legendary group), Ike and Tina(could be in the legendary group), Tupac, Biggie, Queen, etc, etc. Basically people who has had profound impacts during their time period and you can still see their marks today.
Just because you had a few hits or were the 'it girl, boy or band" of your time, DOESNT make you iconic.
Do you guys agree??

Those words should be banned from this forum or censored so people are forced to think of alternatives.
I think the membership here is just generally too young to grasp these words true meaning tbh.

Good to know Im not alone.
Just because you have been around for years doesnt make you iconic either. It just means that you are successful.
Also I dont see many artist of today becoming iconic. Their work wont hold up well in years to come, hell some of it doesnt hold up well now.

Oh, I do know where this discussion goes. Now we discuss Madonna, then comes Lady Gaga and we end this with Carly Rae Jepsen.

Madonna's like the biggest Female musician of all time, of course she's legendary...
But yes, those words are used wayy too often and incorrectly, especially on girls who have debuted post-2000. Britney's about the only young female popstar around right now that you can even begin to make a case for when using any of these words.

Denying Madonna is legendary IS being biased, sorry. Ever her worst haters can admit she's legendary so there's something seriously wrong with you

Two Artist who are absolutly legends in influence and only mentioned seldom on ATRL are Bob Dylan and Myles Davis
.
I see in the Future the legendary status of Michael Jackson to falter. In hundred years, MJ and Madonna will be called in the same breath, but surely not as legends.

Yeah, people like Rihanna and Katy Perry are NOWHERE near legendary.
Ciara, Ameriie and Mia are the only living legends and icons
