News: Everett: "There's nothing worse than gay parents"

"I'm not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don't feel like I'm part of any 'community'.

"The only community I belong to is humanity and we've got too many children on the planet, so it's good not to have more."

Campaigners have described Everett's remarks, which were published as part of a joint interview with his mother Sara, as akin to those made by people who oppose same-sex marriages.

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of the campaign group Stonewall, said: "Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop."

Mrs Everett, 77, said that she knew her son was gay when he was 18. She also admitted that she still wishes he was straight.

"In the past, I have said that I wish Rupert was straight and, I probably still feel that," she said. "I'd like him to have a pretty wife.

"I'd like him to have children. He's so good with children. He'd make a wonderful father.

"But I also think a child needs a mummy and a daddy. I've told him that and he takes it very well. He doesn't get angry with me. He just smiles."

The Parade's End star previously caused outrage in 2008 after describing soldiers as "wimps" in The Sunday Telegraph. He later apologised, but went on to anger gay rights representatives by saying that being open about his sexuality had damaged his career and limited the offers of work he received. (source)

As much I'm not agree with him, I do understand a certain point of his opinion. I kinda think that he is thinking that way because of his mother, First sentence he said what his mother told him. And then the part of her talking, it's like she didn't really accept him as a gay.

She does seems to take a big part of his life, and be a little bit over controlling him.

I don't know if I'm clear or not.

I'd say a group of people telling that they aren't fit to raise children is a legitimate thing to be bothered by.

I can sort of understand what he means; the child could be subject to bullying, and some would argue that a child requires a male & female perspective to have a balanced upbringing, but I'd disagree. I think it depends on the people. You can get ****** straight parents too... If anything gay people might cherish their child(ten) even more, because they have to work hard to get them.

Gay people also cant just accidentally have a kid after a night of vodka, they have to WANT one. People always seem to ignore that factor for some reason.
