I don't have them. I don't have a strong opposition to them. I think there a lot of people that have them. A lot of my friends are on them and it helps them a lot. NYC is hella expensive, so without EBT, they would starve.
When I was an undergrad, yes - I definitely had them. I was making little less to nothing as a college student, and I thought it would be appropriate for me to be on assistance while I was away from home. Always came in handy, and I never had to worry about food or going hungry. I think it becomes problematic when people actually take advantage of receiving assistance when they become gainfully employed and have way more disposable income than they did before.
Because of the amount you get back from loans and grants?
I don't get loans or grants ... I do get scholarships. My family makes too much money. I'm independent this year and they say I receive too much money from my inheritance
Nothing is wrong with getting an EBT/food stamps. They are there for a reason and people who are eligible should take advantage of it. It's like saying there's something wrong with financial aid for college.
It becomes a joke when people misuse them and don't plan on getting permanent employment because they are able to get assistance.
