Looks like Calvin Harris isn't releasing any more albums.

"And yet, according to some insider information, Calvin Harris will be eschewing the album route for the foreseeable future.

An insider says, “Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward. Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts. Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success.”

I don't think any pop/major artists will do this ever. Vinyl has been around forever, there's still a demand for it. CDs will be the same. I don't see CDs ever dying out. Djs on the other hand are different imo.. I don't think they the cd route is necessary for them.

The Chainsmokers are doing this too, I'm pretty sure.

This is only smart for DJs. Artists that really want to be known and gain a wide fanbase need discographies outside of just a couple songs.

This seems to be the way to go for EDM artists - is it will.i.am who declared the same about two years ago? I'm not surprised - that is a singles market / genre if I've ever seen one. I can't see it spreading to other genres though, I feel albums are still fulfilling to most listeners. I mean, EDM can be rather grating to listen to in full.

Poor Prince. Albums matter, not here for these quick little singles. It's all about the charts and not artistry. These DJ's music all sound the same and is generic. Sad that they are dominating the industry.

Flo Rida should take notes

Flo Rida's been ahead of the trend. He's been releasing EPs / albums with single-digit track lists for YEARS. He hasn't released a full-length album since 2009.

For him, yes. That is his best bet. People only care for his hits anyway.

as others have said, it makes sense only for DJs like calvin, chainsmokers, david guetta, etc. they make music that people enjoy and do well on charts, but how many fans do they actually have that are going to even care about their albums, let alone buy them?

Even his album tracks get strong streams so seems like a loss at first. The Chainsmokers' their impact!

I mean, to be honest for DJs is something I can see happening, but for artists who sing, write and produce that have a band and NEED to tour albums are a better option
