This irks me in a bad way... It might just be the lack of structure to it. This probably wouldn't be such a big issue if he were a smaller artist though.

This is the way most DJ's already operate.

I think a middle-ground approach between random single releases and full-length albums is a smart route for mainstream musicians. You can randomly drop a hot song to stay relevant during the long stretch between albums, when being forgotten is a great risk.

I was thinking about this a lot last year, and how it could have benefited Gaga. I'm not against albums, but I do think it's absurd that most artists won't release a single outside of one.

He can always release some compilations down the line to cover the released singles

And don't forget that most Dj's scedule works different from the pop artist scedule.
There are loads of Dj's who premiere various tracks during their livesets, while only two to three actually get a proper release in the end. They work lessin a body of work, and more into seperate pieces.A body of work is not needed for DJ's since people will go to their sets if they enjoy some cuts they heard in a club or the occasional released seperate singles.

pop artists gear up album releases to deliver a body/piece of work, and also the be able to tour. Albums are basically a way for artists to be able to tour and attract listeners to buy tickets to their shows.
